Wow, what a day! Seriously, I can’t even. So, I wake up in Saint-Girons, right? The sun’s shining, birds are chirping, and I’m like, “Today’s gonna be chill.” Spoiler alert: it was NOT chill. First off, I grab my coffee at this cute little café on Rue de la République. The barista, bless her heart, totally messed up my order. I mean, how hard is it to make a cappuccino? I’m standing there, waiting, and she hands me a black coffee. Ugh! I’m like, “No, no, no! I need foam, lady!” But whatever, I chugged it anyway. Caffeine is life, am I right? So, I head over to the community center on Rue de la Gare for my first interpreting gig. It’s a workshop for deaf kids. Super cool, right? But then, I walk in, and it’s chaos! Kids running everywhere, yelling, and I’m just trying to keep up. I’m like, “Whoa, slow down, kiddos!” But they’re all hyped up on sugar or something. Then, this one kid, Lucas, he’s got the biggest smile. He’s signing like a pro, and I’m just trying to keep my cool. But then, he trips over a chair. I swear, my heart stopped! He’s fine, just a little scraped knee, but I was ready to freak out. I mean, come on, not on my watch! After that, we did some games. I was interpreting this hilarious skit they put on. They were pretending to be animals, and let me tell you, the way they signed “elephant” was the funniest thing ever! I was cracking up, and the kids were loving it. It felt so good to see them happy. But then, outta nowhere, the fire alarm goes off! Like, seriously? In the middle of all this? Everyone’s panicking, and I’m trying to keep it together. I’m signing, “Stay calm! Follow me!” But they’re all running around like headless chickens. I’m like, “Guys, it’s just a drill!” But no one’s listening. Finally, we get outside, and I’m standing there, trying to count heads. I’m like, “Where’s Lucas?!” I’m freaking out again. But then, I see him, just chilling by the fountain on Place de la République, splashing water everywhere. I’m like, “Dude, you scared me!” But he just laughs. Kids, man. After the chaos, I needed a breather. So, I hit up this little park near Rue de la Paix. It’s so pretty there, with all the trees and flowers. I sat on a bench, just soaking it all in. I thought about how lucky I am to do this job. Sure, it’s wild sometimes, but it’s also super rewarding. Then, I get a text from my buddy, asking if I wanna grab dinner. I’m like, “Heck yes!” We hit up this spot on Rue de la Liberté. The food is bomb! I ordered a cassoulet, and it was everything I needed after that crazy day. We laughed about the fire drill and how I almost lost my mind. By the time I got home, I was exhausted but happy. Saint-Girons is wild, but it’s my kind of wild. I love the energy, the people, the unexpected moments. Can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings!
