Man, what a day! I’m tellin’ ya, being an elevator operator in Saint-Julien is like riding a rollercoaster, but without the safety bar. So, I roll into work, right? It’s a sunny morning, and I’m thinkin’, “Today’s gonna be chill.” Spoiler alert: it wasn’t. First off, I’m stationed at the big ol’ building on Rue de la République. You know, the one with the fancy café on the ground floor? Yeah, that one. I’m just mindin’ my own business, when this lady rushes in. She’s got a baby in one arm and a coffee in the other. I’m like, “Lady, you need a third arm!” She’s all flustered, and I’m tryin’ to be helpful, but I’m also thinkin’, “Why didn’t you just get a stroller?” So, I hit the button for the 3rd floor. She’s like, “Hurry, please!” I’m like, “Chill, we’re not in a race!” But I get it, she’s probably late for something important. I mean, who isn’t in this city? Saint-Julien’s always buzzing, especially around the Place du Marché. Anyway, I finally get her up there, and she bolts out like a rocket. I’m just sittin’ there, thinkin’ about how I need a coffee too. So, I take a quick break, head down to that café. Best croissant ever, by the way. But then, BAM! I spill my coffee all over my shirt. Great. Just great. Now I look like I’ve been in a food fight. Back to the grind. Next up, I get this group of tourists. They’re all excited, takin’ selfies in the elevator. I’m like, “Dude, it’s just an elevator!” But they’re lovin’ it. They start askin’ me about the best spots in Saint-Julien. I’m like, “You gotta check out the Parc de la Mairie. It’s got the best views!” But they’re more interested in the elevator. I mean, come on! Then, outta nowhere, this guy bursts in. He’s all sweaty and panicked. “I’m late for a meeting!” he yells. I’m like, “Bro, we’re on the 1st floor. You’ll be fine.” But he’s pacing like he’s about to run a marathon. I hit the button, and he’s just standin’ there, breathin’ heavy. I’m thinkin’, “Dude, relax! It’s not the end of the world.” Finally, we get to the 5th floor, and he bolts out. I swear, I’ve never seen someone move so fast. I’m just sittin’ there, laughin’ to myself. Saint-Julien’s got its characters, that’s for sure. Then, the afternoon hits. It’s like the city decided to throw a party. I get a bunch of kids in the elevator, all hyped up from the school across the street. They’re screamin’, laughin’, and I’m just tryin’ to keep it together. One kid starts pushin’ all the buttons. I’m like, “Noooo! Not the basement!” But it’s too late. We’re headed down. When we finally get back up, I’m exhausted. I’m thinkin’ about clockin’ out early, but then I see the sunset from the window. Man, it’s beautiful. The sky’s all orange and pink, and I’m reminded why I love this city. Saint-Julien’s got its charm, even on the craziest days. As I wrap up my shift, I can’t help but smile. Sure, I spilled coffee, dealt with panicked people, and had a mini heart attack with those kids, but that’s life, right? It’s messy, chaotic, and full of surprises. Just like Saint-Julien. So, I head home, ready to crash. But I know tomorrow’s gonna be another wild ride. Bring it on, Saint-Julien!
