Man, what a day! I swear, Afantou is wild. I mean, who knew this little gem in Rhodes could throw so many curveballs? So, I wake up, right? Sun’s shining, birds chirping, and I’m like, “Today’s gonna be chill.” Spoiler alert: it was NOT chill. First off, I hit up the main street, the one that runs through the heart of Afantou. It’s called, uh, I think it’s Dimokratias? Yeah, that’s it. Anyway, I’m cruising down, feeling good, when BAM! I see this old lady trying to cross the street. She’s like a tortoise on a mission. I’m thinking, “C’mon, lady, you can do it!” But then, outta nowhere, this scooter zooms past. I mean, seriously? Who gave that dude a license? So, I’m all riled up, right? I pull over, hop out, and help her across. She’s like, “Thank you, young man!” I’m like, “No prob, just doing my good deed for the day.” But inside, I’m fuming. People need to chill on the roads, man. After that, I head to my first appointment. This guy, let’s call him Nick, he’s a total character. He lives on Agios Nikolaos street, and his house is like a museum of bad decisions. I walk in, and there’s a parrot. A PARROT! Just squawking away. I’m trying to talk insurance, and this bird’s like, “Polly wants a cracker!” I’m like, “Dude, I’m trying to sell a policy here!” Nick’s all over the place. He’s got stories about every single item in his house. “This lamp? Found it in a dumpster!” “This painting? My cousin painted it after a night of too much ouzo!” I’m laughing, but also thinking, “How do I get outta here?” Finally, I wrap up with him, and I’m feeling kinda good. I mean, I made a sale, right? But then, I step outside, and it’s like the universe is playing a prank on me. It starts pouring rain. Like, outta nowhere! I’m soaked in seconds. I’m standing there, looking like a drowned rat, and I’m just like, “Really, Afantou? Really?” So, I duck into a café on the corner of Eparchiaki Odos Afantou. I need a coffee, like, NOW. I order a freddo, and the barista, this cool dude, tells me about the best spots in town. He’s like, “You gotta check out the beach later!” I’m thinking, “Yeah, after I dry off, buddy.” But then, I get this wild idea. Why not hit the beach anyway? I mean, I’m already wet, right? So, I grab my stuff and head to Afantou Beach. It’s beautiful, man. The waves are crashing, and the sun’s peeking through the clouds. I plop down on the sand, and for a second, I forget about the craziness of the day. But then, I see this kid building a sandcastle. And I’m like, “Aww, that’s cute.” But then, his little brother runs up and kicks it over! I’m like, “Noooo! Not the castle!” The kid starts crying, and I’m torn between laughing and feeling bad. Kids, man. They’re a trip. As the sun starts to set, I’m just sitting there, soaking it all in. I think about how crazy today was. From almost getting run over to selling insurance to a parrot, to witnessing a sandcastle tragedy. It’s all part of the gig, I guess. So, I pack up and head home, thinking about how Afantou is full of surprises. I mean, who knew a small town could be so... intense? I can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings. But for now, I’m just gonna crash. Peace out, Afantou! You’ve been a wild ride.
