Man, what a day! I swear, Ierapetra is wild. Like, you think you know a place, then bam! It hits you with all the feels. So, I wake up, right? Sun’s shining, birds chirping, and I’m like, “Today’s gonna be chill.” Spoiler alert: it was NOT chill. First off, I had to rush to the market on 25th Martiou Street. You know, the one with all the fresh veggies and fish? I love that place! But today? Ugh. It was packed. Like, sardines in a can packed. I’m trying to sign for this sweet old lady who’s buying olives, and people are bumping into me left and right. I’m like, “Excuse me, can’t you see I’m working here?” But no, they just keep pushing. Then, I get a call. It’s my boss. “Hey, we need you at the hospital.” I’m like, “What? Now?” I mean, I was just getting into the groove of my day. But whatever, right? So I hop on my bike and zoom down to the hospital on Kallergi Street. I’m flying past the beach, and the waves are crashing, and I’m thinking, “Man, I love this place.” But then, I hit a pothole. Boom! I’m almost flying off my bike. Great start, huh? Finally, I get to the hospital, and it’s chaos. There’s this family, all worried about their kid. I mean, who wouldn’t be? But they’re speaking so fast, and I’m trying to keep up. I’m signing like a madman, and the kid’s just staring at me like I’m some kind of alien. I’m like, “Dude, I’m just here to help!” But he’s not having it. After that, I’m feeling all emotional. Like, I just want to hug someone. But no time for that! I gotta run to the school on Vitsentzos Kornaros Street. They need me for a class. I get there, and it’s a bunch of kids. They’re all excited, and I’m thinking, “Finally, some good vibes!” But then, one kid throws a paper airplane right at my face. I’m like, “Really? You think this is funny?” But I can’t help but laugh. Kids, man. So, I’m teaching them some signs, and they’re all giggling. It’s cute. But then, one kid asks, “Can you sign ‘unicorn’?” I’m like, “Dude, that’s not even a real thing!” But I sign it anyway, and they go wild. I’m feeling like a rockstar. But then, I get a text. “Emergency at the community center.” I’m like, “Are you kidding me?” So I dash over to the center on Agios Georgios Street. Turns out, they’re having a big event, and the interpreter bailed. I’m like, “Great, just what I needed.” I get there, and it’s packed. People everywhere, and I’m trying to sign for this big presentation. My brain’s fried, and I’m just hoping I don’t mess up. But then, the speaker starts talking about the history of Ierapetra, and I’m like, “Whoa, this is actually interesting!” Did you know it’s one of the oldest towns in Crete? Crazy, right? Anyway, I’m signing away, and I’m feeling good. But then, the power goes out. Just like that. I’m standing there in the dark, and I’m like, “What now?” People start panicking, and I’m trying to keep everyone calm. “It’s cool, we got this!” But inside, I’m freaking out. Finally, the lights come back on, and I’m like, “Phew!” But then, I see someone in the back. It’s my ex. Great. Just what I needed. I’m trying to focus, but all I can think is, “Why are you here?” But I push through. After the event, I’m exhausted. I head to the beach to chill. I sit on the sand, watching the sunset. It’s beautiful. I’m thinking about my day, all the craziness, and I can’t help but smile. Ierapetra, you’re a wild ride. But I wouldn’t trade it for anything. So yeah, that was my day. Full of ups and downs, but that’s life, right? Just gotta roll with it.
