Man, today was a wild ride. I mean, I thought being a cashier in Békés would be chill, but nah, not today! So, I roll into work at the Spar on Kossuth Lajos utca, right? It’s a sunny morning, birds chirping, and I’m like, “Today’s gonna be great!” Spoiler alert: it wasn’t. First customer? This old dude, right? He’s got a cart full of stuff. I’m talking like, 50 bags of flour, a dozen eggs, and a whole chicken. Like, bro, are you baking for the whole town? Anyway, he’s fumbling with his wallet, and I’m just standing there, tapping my foot. C’mon, man! I got a line forming! Then, outta nowhere, this lady storms in. She’s yelling about her missing lottery ticket. “I swear I had it!” she screams. I’m like, “Lady, I’m just a cashier, not a detective!” But she’s not having it. She’s pacing around like a lion in a cage. I’m trying to scan her groceries, but she’s blocking the register. Finally, she finds the ticket in her purse. Of course! It was there the whole time! She’s all smiles now, and I’m just like, “Great, can I get back to work?” Then, it gets crazier. This kid runs in, right? He’s got ice cream all over his face. I mean, it’s dripping everywhere. He slips on the floor and goes down like a sack of potatoes. I’m half-laughing, half-worried. “You good, kid?” He just giggles and gets up. Kids are wild, man. Around noon, I take my break. I head over to the nearby park on Széchenyi tér. It’s nice, but the pigeons are relentless. I swear, they’re plotting something. I sit down, munching on my sandwich, and one of them swoops down, trying to steal my lunch! I’m like, “Dude, back off!” After my break, I’m back at the register. The afternoon crowd is insane. People are rushing in from the market on Rákóczi utca, bags full of fresh veggies and stuff. I’m scanning like a machine, but then the power goes out! Just my luck, right? Everyone’s looking around, confused. I’m standing there, holding a bag of chips like it’s a trophy. “Guess we’re going old school!” I shout. People start laughing, and it lightens the mood. Power comes back, and I’m back to scanning. But then, this guy comes in, looking all shady. He’s got sunglasses on, even though it’s cloudy. I’m thinking, “What’s up with this dude?” He buys a pack of gum and leaves. But I swear, he was acting like he was in a spy movie or something. Finally, the day winds down. I’m exhausted, but I can’t help but smile. Békés is a small town, but man, the people are something else. I love the quirks, the chaos, and the random moments. As I close up, I think about tomorrow. What’s gonna happen next? More crazy customers? More ice cream disasters? Bring it on, Békés! I’m ready for ya!
