Man, what a day! I’m tellin’ ya, being a carpenter in Gyula is like riding a rollercoaster blindfolded. So, I wake up, right? Sun’s shining, birds chirping, and I’m like, “Today’s gonna be chill.” Ha! Spoiler alert: it wasn’t. First off, I hit the road on Kossuth Lajos utca. You know, the one that’s always packed with those fancy cafes? I’m just cruisin’, thinkin’ about my first job of the day. Gotta fix this old lady’s wooden fence on Szegedi utca. She’s sweet, but man, she talks a lot. Like, I’m there to work, not to hear her life story! Anyway, I get to her place, and she’s already waiting with a plate of those delicious Hungarian pastries. I mean, who can say no to that? But then, she starts rambling about her cat, Mici. “Mici this, Mici that.” I’m like, “Lady, I’m here to fix your fence, not adopt your cat!” But I smile and nod, ya know? So, I’m out back, hammering away, and suddenly, I hear this loud crash. I whip around, and it’s her neighbor, old man Jozsef, who just knocked over his garden gnome. I swear, it was like a scene from a comedy. He’s cursing in Hungarian, and I’m just tryin’ not to laugh. I mean, come on, it’s a gnome! After that little circus, I finally get the fence done. She’s happy, I’m happy, and I’m thinkin’ I can finally grab a beer at the local pub. But nooo, life had other plans. I head over to the main square, where all the action is. You know, the one with the castle? Gyula Castle is a beauty, man. But today, it’s packed with tourists. I’m dodging people left and right, and I’m like, “Can’t a carpenter get a break?” I finally find a spot at a bar, order a cold one, and just as I’m about to take a sip, this kid runs by and knocks my drink all over me. I’m soaked! I’m like, “Seriously, kid?!” But he just giggles and runs off. I can’t even be mad. Kids, right? So, I dry off a bit and decide to take a stroll. I hit up the thermal baths. Man, if you haven’t been, you’re missing out. It’s like heaven on earth. I’m chillin’ in the warm water, and I start thinkin’ about life. Like, why do I even do this job? But then I remember the pastries, and I’m like, “Oh yeah, that’s why!” After the baths, I’m feelin’ good. I head back to my workshop on Békéscsaba utca, ready to tackle some new projects. But guess what? My tools are missing! I’m fuming! Who steals a carpenter’s tools? I mean, come on! I spend the next hour searching, cursing, and just being generally grumpy. Finally, I find them in the back of my truck. I must’ve been so tired I forgot to put them away. Classic me, right? By the end of the day, I’m exhausted but happy. I sit on my porch, watch the sunset over the castle, and think about how wild today was. Gyula, man, it’s a crazy place, but it’s home. I wouldn’t trade it for anything. So, yeah, that was my day. Full of ups and downs, but that’s life, right? Just gotta roll with the punches and enjoy the ride. Cheers to that!
