Man, what a day! I’m still buzzing from all the craziness in Kresek. Seriously, where do I even start? So, I’m an ichthyologist, right? Fish nerd, you know? But today was like a rollercoaster of emotions. First off, I woke up late. Like, super late. My alarm? Totally ignored it. I was supposed to meet my buddy at the fish market on Jl. Raya Kresek. You know, the one that smells like a mix of seaweed and regret? Yeah, that one. I sprinted outta my place, tripping over my own shoes. Classic me. When I finally got there, I was all outta breath. And guess what? My buddy, Rudi, was already there, munching on some fried fish. I was like, “Dude, save me a piece!” But nah, he just laughed and said, “You snooze, you lose!” Ugh, so annoying. Anyway, we hit the market. It was packed! People everywhere, haggling over fish like it was Black Friday. I spotted some gorgeous koi, and I swear, my heart skipped a beat. They were so vibrant! But then, I saw this old dude trying to sell some sickly-looking tilapia. I was like, “Bro, those fish look like they need a vacation!” Then, outta nowhere, this kid runs by, knocks over a whole bucket of shrimp. I mean, shrimp everywhere! It was like a seafood explosion. I couldn’t help but laugh. Rudi was just standing there, mouth agape. I told him, “Welcome to Kresek, buddy!” After the market, we decided to stroll down Jl. Pahlawan. It’s this cute street with all these little cafes. I was craving some kopi, you know? So we popped into this tiny place called Warung Kopi Kresek. Best coffee ever! I ordered a cup, and the barista was like, “You want it strong or strong?” I was like, “Hit me with the strong!” While sipping my coffee, I noticed this mural on the wall. It was a giant fish, all colorful and stuff. I thought, “Man, this is art!” But then I realized it was just a promo for some fish restaurant. Kresek really knows how to market fish, huh? But then, the day took a turn. We were walking by the river, and I saw this group of kids fishing. They were using the weirdest bait—like, bread and some old soda. I was like, “What are you guys doing?” They just shrugged. I mean, who needs fancy lures when you’ve got bread, right? Suddenly, one of the kids caught a fish! It was a tiny little thing, but they were all cheering like it was a trophy fish. I felt this wave of happiness wash over me. It reminded me why I love fish so much. They bring people together, you know? But then, outta nowhere, a stray dog came and snatched the fish right outta the kid’s hands! I couldn’t believe it! The kid was crying, and I was like, “Dude, it’s just a fish!” But I felt bad. I mean, that was his moment. After that, we decided to head to the beach. Kresek has this beautiful stretch of sand called Pantai Kresek. The waves were crashing, and I felt so alive! I kicked off my shoes and ran into the water. It was freezing, but I didn’t care. I was just soaking it all in. Rudi was still sulking about the fish incident. I told him, “C’mon, man! It’s just a fish! Let’s catch some waves instead!” He finally cracked a smile. We spent the rest of the afternoon just goofing around, trying to catch waves and failing miserably. As the sun started to set, I felt this overwhelming sense of gratitude. Kresek, with all its quirks and chaos, had given me a day full of surprises. I mean, who knew a city could be so alive? So yeah, that was my day. Full of fish, laughter, and a bit of chaos. Kresek, you’ve got my heart! Can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings.
