Man, what a day! Seriously, I’m still reeling from it. So, I wake up in Ballyboden, right? The sun’s shining, birds are chirping, and I’m like, “Today’s gonna be chill.” Spoiler alert: it was NOT chill. First off, I’m out on the main drag, Ballyboden Road, and I’m just trying to grab a coffee from my fave spot, The Coffee House. You know, the one with the killer scones? But of course, there’s a line out the door. Like, c’mon people, it’s just coffee! I’m standing there, tapping my foot, thinking about how I could’ve made my own at home. But nah, I needed that caffeine fix. Finally, I get my coffee, and I’m feeling like a million bucks. I stroll down to the park, you know, the one by the Ballyboden St. Enda’s GAA club. It’s a nice spot, loads of green, kids playing, dogs running around. I’m just vibing, sipping my coffee, when I see this kid, like, totally wipe out on his bike. I’m talking full-on faceplant. Ouch! But he gets up, brushes it off, and starts laughing. I’m like, “Dude, you’re tougher than I am!” Then, outta nowhere, I get a call from my boss. Ugh. He’s like, “We need to organize an event, like, yesterday.” I’m thinking, “Seriously? Can’t a community manager catch a break?” So, I’m scrambling to think of ideas while I’m walking down Ballyboden Park Avenue. I pass by the shops, and I’m hit with this wave of inspiration. I’m like, “What if we do a street fair?” You know, food stalls, local artists, live music. Sounds awesome, right? But then I remember the last time we tried to do something like that. The weather turned, and it poured. I mean, it was like the sky opened up and said, “Not today, Ballyboden!” Anyway, I’m pumped, so I start jotting down ideas. I’m walking past the Ballyboden Library, and I see this group of teens hanging out. They’re blasting music, and I’m like, “Hey, keep it down!” But then I realize, I’m just an old soul now. I used to be them! So, I just smile and keep moving. Next, I head over to the Ballyboden Village Centre. I’m thinking, “Let’s hit up the local businesses for support.” I walk into this cute little boutique, and the owner, Mary, is super friendly. She’s like, “What’s the plan?” I spill my street fair idea, and she’s all in. I’m feeling good, like, “Yes! This is gonna be epic!” But then, I step outside, and it starts to drizzle. I’m like, “No way! Not again!” I’m standing there, looking up at the sky, and I swear I can hear it laughing at me. I pull out my phone, and I’m like, “Okay, weather app, don’t fail me now.” It says it’s just a passing shower. Phew! So, I keep hustling. I hit up the local pub, The Happy Pear, and chat with the owner, Tom. He’s a legend. He’s like, “I’ll donate some drinks for the fair.” I’m thinking, “This is gonna be a party!” But then, I remember the last time I had too many drinks at his pub. Let’s just say, I woke up with a headache and a mystery bruise. As I’m wrapping up my day, I’m walking back home, and I can’t help but feel a mix of emotions. I’m exhausted but excited. Ballyboden is such a gem. The community, the people, the vibe—it’s all so real. I love it here, even when it drives me nuts. So, yeah, that was my day. Full of ups and downs, but that’s life, right? Can’t wait to see how this street fair turns out. Fingers crossed the weather holds up!
