Man, what a day! Seriously, I’m still buzzing from it. So, I wake up in Safed, right? The sun’s peeking through my window on Ha’atzmaut Street. I’m like, “Today’s gonna be chill.” Spoiler alert: it was NOT chill. First off, I’m a Kvasnik, which means I deal with all things fermented. Yeah, I know, sounds fancy, but it’s just me and my barrels. Anyway, I head out to the market on Jerusalem Street. The vibe is electric! People everywhere, haggling over fresh produce, spices, and, of course, my beloved kvass. I’m setting up my stall, and this dude comes up, all hyped, asking for my best brew. I’m like, “Bro, you’re in for a treat!” But then, outta nowhere, this kid runs by, knocks over my whole setup! I’m talking barrels rolling, kvass splashing everywhere. I’m standing there, mouth agape, like, “Did that just happen?” I mean, come on! I just cleaned that up! So, I’m fuming, right? But then, I see this old lady on the corner of the street, selling these amazing pastries. She’s got this smile that could light up the whole Old City. I can’t stay mad. I grab a pastry, and it’s like heaven in my mouth. I’m thinking, “Okay, maybe today’s not a total loss.” After that, I decide to take a stroll through the Artist Quarter. Man, the colors! The murals on the walls are insane. I stop to chat with this painter, and he’s telling me about his latest piece. It’s a giant canvas of the mountains surrounding Safed. I’m like, “Dude, that’s epic!” But then he starts talking about his ‘deep connection’ to the mountains, and I’m just nodding, trying not to roll my eyes. Then, I hit up the ancient cemetery. Yeah, I know, sounds morbid, but hear me out. It’s peaceful there. I’m walking among the tombstones, and I spot this one that’s all covered in flowers. It’s for a rabbi or something. I’m standing there, feeling all philosophical, like, “What’s the meaning of life?” Then I trip over a rock. Classic me, right? Next, I head to the Kabbalah Center. I’m not super into all that mystical stuff, but the energy is wild. I sit in on a session, and these folks are all chanting. I’m just trying to keep a straight face. One guy’s waving his arms around like he’s conducting an orchestra. I’m thinking, “Dude, chill. It’s just a meditation.” By now, I’m starving. I hit up a local falafel joint on Ha’Nassi Street. Best falafel in town, no contest. I’m munching away, and this guy next to me starts talking about the best places to hike around Safed. He’s going on and on, and I’m like, “Bro, I just want my falafel!” But he’s so passionate, I can’t help but listen. Finally, I wrap up my day at the Citadel. The view from up there is breathtaking. You can see the whole city, the mountains, the valleys. I’m standing there, feeling all the feels. It’s like, “Wow, this is life.” But then, I realize I’ve lost my phone. Panic mode activated! I’m running around like a headless chicken, retracing my steps. Long story short, I find it in my pocket. Classic! I’m laughing at myself, thinking, “What a day!” Safed, you crazy city, you’ve got my heart. I’m exhausted but happy. Can’t wait to do it all again tomorrow!
