Man, what a day! I swear, being a lifeguard in Cassano-Allo-Ionio is like riding a rollercoaster. One minute you’re chillin’, the next you’re in the middle of a drama fest. So, let me break it down for ya. I roll up to the beach around 9 AM, sun’s already blazing. The waves are lookin’ pretty sweet, and I’m thinkin’, “Today’s gonna be a breeze.” But nah, life had other plans. First off, I gotta set up my spot on the sand near Via Nazionale. You know, the main drag where all the tourists flock? Yeah, that place. So, I’m settin’ up my chair, and this kid runs by, totally wipes out on the sand. I’m like, “Dude, you okay?” He just laughs it off. Kids, man. They bounce back like rubber balls. But then, I see his mom, and she’s freakin’ out. Like, chill, lady! It’s just sand! Then, outta nowhere, this group of tourists shows up. They’re blasting music, like, come on! I’m tryin’ to save lives here, not host a beach party. But hey, I can’t be a total buzzkill. I let it slide. For now. Around noon, things get wild. I spot a couple of guys in the water, lookin’ like they’re tryin’ to swim to Sicily or somethin’. I’m like, “Yo, you guys are gonna drown!” So, I blow my whistle, and they just wave me off. Classic. I sprint into the water, and it’s like a scene from Baywatch. I’m channeling my inner David Hasselhoff, but with way less hair. I reach ‘em, and they’re like, “We’re fine, bro!” But I’m not havin’ it. I drag ‘em back to shore, and they’re all, “Thanks, man!” Like, no problem, just doin’ my job. But inside, I’m like, “You guys are lucky I’m here.” After that, I take a breather. Grab a granita from that little shack on Via Roma. You know the one? The one with the best lemon granita in town? I swear, it’s like heaven in a cup. But then, I see this old dude trying to swim with a floatie shaped like a flamingo. I can’t even. I’m laughing so hard, I almost drop my granita. Then, the afternoon hits. The sun’s at its peak, and I’m feelin’ the heat. I’m sweating like a sinner in church. Suddenly, I hear a commotion. A family is arguing over a beach umbrella. Like, really? You’re gonna fight over a piece of fabric? I’m just sittin’ there, shaking my head. But then, it gets serious. I see a girl struggling in the water. My heart drops. I sprint back in, and it’s like time slows down. I reach her just in time. She’s panicking, and I’m like, “I got you! Just hold on!” I pull her to safety, and she’s crying. I’m like, “Hey, it’s okay! You’re safe now!” After that, I’m on a high. I feel like a hero. But then, the day takes a turn. I see a couple of guys on the beach, drinking beer and being loud. I walk over, and they’re like, “What’s up, lifeguard?” I’m like, “Dude, chill with the drinks. This ain’t a frat party.” They roll their eyes, but whatever. As the sun starts to set, I’m packing up. I’m exhausted but happy. Cassano-Allo-Ionio is my home, and even with all the craziness, I wouldn’t trade it for anything. The beach, the people, the drama—it’s all part of the gig. So, yeah, that was my day. Just another wild ride in Cassano. Can’t wait to do it all again tomorrow!
