Man, what a day! Seriously, I’m still reeling from it. So, I wake up in Cesano-Boscone, right? You know, that little gem just outside Milan. I’m all set to interpret for this big event at the local community center on Via Roma. I grab my coffee, and let me tell ya, it was like liquid gold. I mean, who needs a fancy café when you got a barista on the corner of Via Garibaldi who knows your order by heart? Anyway, I get to the center, and it’s packed. Like, standing-room-only packed. I’m thinking, “Great, more people means more energy!” But then, bam! The power goes out. Just like that. I’m standing there, in the dark, with a bunch of deaf folks looking at me like, “What now?” I’m like, “Uh, I guess we’re doing this old-school?” So, I start signing in the dark. I’m waving my arms around like a madman. I mean, I’m no magician, but I was pulling some serious tricks outta my hat. People were laughing, which was cool, but I was sweating bullets. I could feel my shirt sticking to my back. Gross, right? Then, just when I thought it couldn’t get crazier, this lady from the back shouts, “Can we get a flashlight?” I’m like, “Sure, why not? Let’s add a little disco vibe to this!” So, someone runs out to grab a flashlight, and when they come back, it’s like a scene from a horror movie. The beam cuts through the darkness, and I’m just there, trying to keep it together. Finally, the lights flicker back on, and everyone cheers! I’m like, “Yay, we’re not in the dark ages anymore!” But then, I see this guy in the front row, totally zoned out. I mean, he’s staring into space like he’s just seen a ghost. Turns out, he was just really into the whole vibe. I mean, who wouldn’t be? Cesano-Boscone is full of surprises! After the event, I’m walking down Via Cavour, and I spot this cute little gelato shop. I can’t resist. I mean, who can? I grab a cone of pistachio, and it’s like heaven in my mouth. I’m standing there, licking my gelato, and I see this kid trying to ride his bike on the sidewalk. He’s wobbling all over the place, and I’m thinking, “Dude, you’re gonna eat pavement!” And guess what? He totally does! He goes down hard, and I’m like, “Ouch!” But he pops right back up, laughing. Kids are tough, man. I wish I had that kind of resilience. So, I keep walking, and I bump into an old friend from high school. We start chatting about the good ol’ days, you know? Like, remember that time we snuck into the park on Via della Libertà? Classic! We were so rebellious. Now, we’re just adults with jobs. Ugh, adulthood is overrated. As the sun sets over Cesano-Boscone, I’m feeling all kinds of emotions. Happy, nostalgic, a bit angry about the power outage, but mostly grateful. Grateful for the people, the moments, and the gelato. I finally head home, and I’m just thinking about how wild this day was. I mean, who knew interpreting could be such a rollercoaster? But that’s Cesano-Boscone for ya. Always keeping me on my toes!
