Man, what a day! I’m tellin’ ya, being a lifeguard in Corigliano-d-Otranto is like riding a rollercoaster. One minute you’re chillin’, the next you’re in the middle of a soap opera. So, let’s rewind to this morning. I roll up to the beach, right? The sun’s shining, waves are crashing, and I’m thinkin’, “Today’s gonna be a breeze.” But nah, life had other plans. First off, I’m settin’ up my spot near the Spiaggia di Torre dell’Ovo. Beautiful view, but the wind? Ugh, it was like a hairdryer on full blast. My sunscreen flew off the table like it had wings. Then, outta nowhere, this kid starts screamin’. I look over, and there’s this little dude, maybe 7 or 8, crying like he just lost his favorite toy. Turns out, he dropped his ice cream in the sand. I mean, come on! I get it, ice cream is life, but dude, it’s just sand! I tried to cheer him up, told him I’d get him a new one. He just stared at me like I was a total weirdo. Kids, man. So, I head over to the gelateria on Via Roma. Best gelato in town, no contest. I grab a cone, and guess what? The guy behind the counter, Marco, is like, “Hey, you’re the lifeguard! You saved my cousin last summer!” I’m like, “Yeah, that was a wild day.” He laughs, and I’m thinkin’, “Great, now I’m famous for saving people from drowning and not for my killer tan.” I get back to the beach, ice cream in hand, and the kid’s still crying. I hand him the cone, and his face lights up like it’s Christmas. Sweet victory! But then, I see this group of teenagers near the water. They’re all like, “Let’s do a cannonball!” and I’m like, “No, no, no! Not near the rocks!” But they jump anyway. Splash! Water everywhere. I’m soaked, and they’re laughing like it’s the best day ever. I’m tryin’ to keep my cool, but inside, I’m fuming. I mean, come on! Safety first, right? I shout at them, “Hey! Chill out! You wanna end up like a fish on the beach?” They just wave me off. Ugh, teenagers. Then, around noon, things get real. I spot a couple of folks struggling in the water. I’m like, “Oh snap!” I grab my rescue buoy and sprint down the beach. My heart’s racing. I dive in, and it’s like a scene from Baywatch. I reach them, and they’re panicking. I’m like, “Just relax! I got you!” Finally, I pull them to safety, and they’re gasping for air. One of them, this dude named Luca, is like, “Thanks, man! I thought I was a goner!” I’m just glad I didn’t have to do any mouth-to-mouth. Not my style, ya know? After that, I’m feelin’ like a hero. But then, I look at my watch. It’s already 3 PM! Where did the time go? I’m starving, so I hit up this little trattoria on Via della Libertà. Best pasta ever! I order the orecchiette with broccoli rabe. Heaven on a plate, I swear. But just when I think I can relax, I hear a commotion outside. Turns out, there’s a wedding happening at the castle! The Castello di Corigliano is lit up, and people are dancing like it’s a scene from a movie. I’m like, “Can I crash this party?” But nah, duty calls. As the sun sets, I’m packing up my stuff. I’m exhausted but happy. Corigliano-d-Otranto is wild, man. It’s got its quirks, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything. I mean, where else can you save lives, eat gelato, and watch a wedding all in one day? So, yeah, that was my day. Just another crazy, beautiful day in Corigliano-d-Otranto. Can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings!
