Man, what a day! Seriously, I can’t even. So, I woke up in my tiny apartment on Via Roma, right? The sun was blaring through the window like it was trying to roast me alive. I’m like, “Chill, sun! I got a lab to run!” First thing, I spill coffee all over my favorite lab coat. Ugh! It’s like the universe is saying, “Not today, buddy!” But whatever, I just threw on a spare one. It’s not like anyone in the lab cares, right? So, I hop on my bike and zoom down Corso Vittorio Emanuele. The streets are packed, as usual. I swear, if I see one more tourist taking selfies in front of the Basilica di Santa Chiara, I might lose it. Like, dude, it’s a church, not a photo op! But hey, I get it. Iglesias is beautiful. The architecture? Chef’s kiss! Finally, I get to the lab, and it’s chaos. My assistant, Marco, is running around like a headless chicken. “We’re out of reagents!” he yells. I’m like, “What do you mean we’re out? Didn’t I tell you to order more?” He just shrugs. Classic Marco. So, I grab my keys and dash out to the nearest supply store on Via Cagliari. I’m dodging people left and right. It’s like an obstacle course! I finally get there, and guess what? They’re out of stock too! I’m fuming. I mean, how hard is it to keep lab supplies? On my way back, I decide to take a detour through the Parco della Musica. It’s this gorgeous park with trees and fountains. I needed a breather, ya know? I sit on a bench, and this old guy starts chatting me up about the best gelato in town. He’s raving about this place on Via Mazzini. I’m like, “Dude, I’m stressed, not hungry!” But he insists, so I promise I’ll check it out later. Back at the lab, things are still a mess. We finally get the reagents, and I’m trying to focus. But then, the fire alarm goes off! Seriously? I’m about to lose my mind. We all pile out into the street, and I’m just standing there, thinking, “This is not how I pictured my day.” After the fire drill (which was a false alarm, of course), I’m finally back at my desk. I’m trying to analyze some data when my phone buzzes. It’s my buddy Luca. He’s like, “Let’s hit that gelato place!” I’m like, “Fine, I need a break.” So, we head over to Via Mazzini, and OMG, the gelato is to die for! I get this wild flavor—fig and ricotta. Sounds weird, but trust me, it’s amazing. I’m sitting there, laughing with Luca, and for a moment, all the lab chaos fades away. But then, I get a call from Marco. “We have a problem!” he says. I’m like, “What now?” Apparently, one of our samples got contaminated. I’m ready to pull my hair out. I rush back to the lab, and it’s a disaster zone. I’m trying to keep my cool, but inside, I’m screaming. I mean, how does this even happen? I start cleaning up, and I’m muttering to myself, “I need a vacation.” Finally, after hours of cleaning and redoing experiments, I’m done. I step outside, and it’s dark. The city lights are twinkling, and I can hear music from a nearby bar. I’m exhausted but somehow happy. Iglesias is a wild mix of chaos and beauty. It drives me nuts, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything. I mean, where else can you have a meltdown in a lab and then chill with gelato in a park? So, yeah, that was my day. Just another rollercoaster in the life of a lab head in Iglesias. Can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings!
