Man, what a day! I’m tellin’ ya, Lucera really knows how to throw a curveball. So, I wake up, right? Sun’s blazin’ through my window, and I’m thinkin’, “Today’s the day!” I got a big job on Via Roma. Gotta build this fancy bookshelf for some rich dude. I grab my tools, head out, and boom! I step on a nail. Like, seriously? A nail? In my own freakin’ yard? I’m hopin’ it’s not a sign. But whatever, I shake it off. I’m a carpenter, I can handle a little pain. So, I’m walkin’ down Corso Garibaldi, and it’s packed. People everywhere, chattin’, laughin’. I love this city, man. The vibe is electric. But then, outta nowhere, this pigeon swoops down and poops right on my shoulder! I’m like, “Really, dude? You couldn’t aim for the ground?” I swear, I’m cursed today. Finally, I get to the job site. The guy’s house is huge, like a castle or somethin’. I’m thinkin’, “This dude must be loaded.” I knock on the door, and he opens it, lookin’ all fancy in his suit. I’m in my work boots and a t-shirt. Talk about a mismatch! He shows me the space. It’s all modern and sleek, but I can tell he’s one of those guys who thinks he knows everything. He starts tellin’ me how to build the bookshelf. I’m like, “Buddy, I’ve been doin’ this for years. I got this.” But I just nod and smile. Gotta keep the peace, right? So, I get to work. I’m cuttin’ wood, hammerin’ nails, and tryin’ to ignore the guy’s constant chatter. He’s talkin’ about stocks and bonds, and I’m just thinkin’ about how I’d rather be at the bar down on Via San Giovanni, sippin’ a cold one. Then, outta nowhere, the power goes out! I’m like, “What the heck?” I’m in the middle of cuttin’ a piece, and now it’s pitch black. I fumble around for my phone, and I’m tryin’ to use the flashlight. The guy’s freakin’ out, yellin’ about how this is unacceptable. I’m like, “Dude, it’s not my fault! I’m just a carpenter!” After a few minutes, the lights flicker back on. Thank goodness! I finish the bookshelf, and it actually looks pretty good. I’m proud of it. But then, the guy starts complainin’ about the color. “It’s too dark,” he says. I’m thinkin’, “Man, you picked the wood!” But I just smile and say, “I can lighten it up for ya.” Finally, I’m done. I pack up my tools, and the guy hands me the check. I look at it, and my jaw drops. It’s way less than I expected. I’m like, “What’s this?” He shrugs and says, “That’s what we agreed on.” I’m fumin’ inside, but I just nod. Gotta keep it professional, right? I step outside, and it’s a beautiful day. The sun’s settin’ over the hills, and I can see the castle in the distance. Lucera is stunning, man. I take a deep breath, tryin’ to shake off the frustration. I stroll down to the piazza, grab a gelato from that little shop on Via Cavour. Best gelato in town, no doubt. I sit on a bench, watchin’ the world go by. Kids are playin’, couples are laughin’. It’s moments like this that make it all worth it. As I’m sittin’ there, I can’t help but laugh at the day. Yeah, it was a mess, but it’s my mess. And I love this city, with all its quirks and surprises. Lucera, you crazy, beautiful place. Can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings!
