Man, what a day! I swear, Mascali really knows how to throw a curveball. So, I wake up, right? Sun’s shining, birds chirping, and I’m like, “Today’s gonna be chill.” Ha! Spoiler alert: it was NOT chill. First off, I’m heading down Via Roma, and I’m already late. Classic me. I’m dodging tourists like I’m in some kinda video game. Seriously, why do they walk so slow? I almost tripped over a gelato stand. Like, come on, people! Priorities! Anyway, I finally get to the community center. It’s packed. I’m talking standing room only. I’m there to interpret for this workshop on accessibility. Super important stuff, right? But the vibe? Ugh. Tension in the air. You could cut it with a knife. So, the workshop starts, and this guy, Marco, he’s all fired up. He’s talking about how Mascali needs more ramps and stuff. I’m nodding, signing away, but inside I’m like, “Dude, you’re preaching to the choir!” Everyone knows it, but no one’s doing anything. Frustrating, ya know? Then, outta nowhere, this lady in the back starts yelling. I mean, full-on shouting. Turns out, she’s got a kid with a disability, and she’s fed up. I get it, but wow, the energy in the room just shifted. It went from “let’s fix this” to “let’s throw down.” I’m trying to keep it together, signing her words, but my heart’s racing. After that, we take a break. I step outside to breathe. Mascali’s streets are buzzing. The smell of arancini wafts through the air. I’m starving! But no time for food. I grab a quick espresso from a café on Via Garibaldi. Best decision ever. That caffeine hit? Life-saver. Back inside, things calm down a bit. We start brainstorming solutions. I’m signing like a madman, trying to keep up with everyone’s ideas. Someone mentions the beach. I’m like, “Dude, we have a beautiful beach right there!” But then I remember, it’s not accessible. Ugh! Mascali, why you gotta do this to us? By the end of the workshop, I’m exhausted but kinda pumped. We actually made some plans! I’m thinking, “Maybe we can change things here.” But then, as I’m leaving, I step in a puddle. Seriously? Who left that there? My shoes are soaked. Just my luck, right? I’m walking back down Via Roma, and I see this street performer. He’s playing the accordion, and it’s kinda magical. I stop for a sec, just to soak it in. Mascali can be beautiful, ya know? But then, I see a kid trying to dance, and he trips. I’m like, “Oh no!” But the kid just laughs it off. That made me smile. Finally, I head home, and I’m thinking about the day. Mascali’s got its issues, but it’s also got heart. I mean, people care. They really do. And I’m just glad I could be a part of it, even if it was a wild ride. So yeah, Mascali, you crazy, but I love ya. Can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings!
