Man, what a day! I’m tellin’ ya, being a telephone operator in Noventa di Piave is like riding a rollercoaster blindfolded. So, I wake up, right? Sun’s shining, birds are chirping, and I’m thinkin’, “Today’s gonna be chill.” Ha! Spoiler alert: it was NOT chill. First call comes in at 8 AM. It’s some dude from Via Roma, all frantic. “My cat’s stuck in a tree!” he yells. I’m like, “Bro, it’s a cat, not a lion.” But hey, I get it. Cats are drama queens. So, I connect him to the fire department. They’re probably just gonna roll their eyes, but whatever. Then, I grab my coffee from that little café on Piazza della Libertà. Best cappuccino in town, no joke. I’m sippin’ it, feeling like a boss, when I see this old lady, Nonna Rosa, struggling with her groceries. I rush over, help her out. She’s like, “You’re a good kid!” I’m blushing, but also thinkin’, “I’m just tryin’ to survive here!” Back to the office, and the phone’s ringing off the hook. I swear, it’s like the whole town decided to have a crisis at once. “My car won’t start!” “I lost my keys!” “There’s a pigeon on my balcony!” Like, seriously? A pigeon? Around noon, I get a call from a guy on Via Garibaldi. He’s all worked up about a “mysterious noise” in his backyard. I’m picturing a raccoon or something. Turns out, it’s just his neighbor’s kid playing the accordion. I mean, who even lets their kid play the accordion? That’s a crime against music! Then, I get a call from a lady on Via Venezia. She’s crying. I’m like, “Oh no, what happened?” Turns out, her favorite gelato shop ran out of pistachio. I mean, I get it, but c’mon! I can’t fix that! I just tell her to try stracciatella. It’s not the same, but hey, it’s still ice cream, right? By 3 PM, I’m ready to pull my hair out. I’m on the phone with this guy who’s convinced his Wi-Fi is haunted. “It keeps dropping!” he says. I’m like, “Dude, it’s not a ghost, it’s probably your router.” But he’s not having it. I’m just sitting there, rolling my eyes, thinking, “Welcome to Noventa, where even the Wi-Fi has drama.” Finally, I get a break. I step outside for some fresh air. The streets are buzzing. Kids are playing soccer on Via Roma, and I can hear the laughter. It’s nice, ya know? Reminds me why I love this place. The vibe is just... alive. But then, I see a guy on a bike, and he’s totally wobbling. I’m like, “Dude, you’re gonna eat pavement!” And guess what? He does! Right in front of me! I can’t help but laugh. He gets up, brushes himself off, and yells, “I’m fine!” Classic Noventa moment. Back to the grind. More calls, more chaos. I’m juggling like a circus clown. Then, I get a call from a woman on Via Trieste. She’s lost her pet turtle. A turtle! I’m like, “Lady, it’s a turtle. It’s not going far.” But she’s panicking. I mean, I get it, but c’mon! As the day winds down, I’m exhausted. But then, I get a call from a kid. He’s like, “Can you help me with my homework?” I’m thinking, “Kid, I’m not a tutor!” But I can’t say no. We end up chatting about the history of Noventa. Did you know it was founded in the Roman era? Mind-blowing, right? Finally, the clock hits 6 PM. I’m done. I step outside, and the sunset over the Piave River is stunning. I take a deep breath, feeling grateful. Sure, today was a mess, but it’s my mess. And I wouldn’t trade Noventa di Piave for anything. So, yeah, that was my day. Just another wild ride in this crazy little town. Can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings!
