Man, what a day! I’m tellin’ ya, being a cooper in Sorbolo is like riding a rollercoaster blindfolded. So, I wake up, right? Sun’s shining, birds are chirping, and I’m thinkin’, “Today’s gonna be chill.” Ha! Spoiler alert: it wasn’t. First off, I head down Via Roma. Love that street. It’s got this vibe, ya know? Little cafes, people chattin’, the smell of fresh bread from the bakery. I grab a cappuccino from Bar Centrale. Best in town, no contest. But then, bam! My phone buzzes. My buddy Marco texts me. “Need barrels for the festival!” Ugh, the festival. It’s like every year, they forget I’m a one-man show. So, I rush over to my workshop on Via Garibaldi. I’m hustlin’, trippin’ over my own feet. I get there, and guess what? I’m outta wood! Seriously? How does that even happen? I’m like, “C’mon, universe, cut me some slack!” I sprint to the lumberyard. It’s on the outskirts, near the river. The guy there, Luigi, is always grumpy. I walk in, and he’s like, “What do you want?” I’m like, “Dude, I need wood. Like, yesterday.” He rolls his eyes. Classic Luigi. But hey, I charm him with a joke about his mustache. He cracks a smile. Score! I load up the wood, but then it starts to rain. Of course! Just my luck. I’m drenched, lookin’ like a soggy rat. I’m thinkin’, “Great, now I’m gonna smell like wet dog.” But I push through. I get back to my workshop, and I’m ready to roll. I’m hammering away, makin’ barrels like a madman. I’m in the zone, right? Then, outta nowhere, my neighbor, Rosa, pops in. She’s got this huge smile. “Hey, you! You’re invited to dinner!” I’m like, “Dinner? But I’m busy!” She just laughs and says, “You need a break!” So, I finish up a barrel and head over to her place on Via Mazzini. It’s cozy, smells like home-cooked pasta. I’m starving! We sit down, and she serves this amazing ragu. I’m in heaven. We’re chatting, laughing, and I forget all about the stress. But then, the doorbell rings. It’s Marco! He barges in, all excited. “Dude, the festival’s gonna be epic!” I’m like, “Yeah, if I can get these barrels done!” He’s all hyped up, talkin’ about fireworks and music. I’m just tryin’ to eat my pasta in peace. After dinner, we head out to check out the festival setup. The streets are lit up, people everywhere. I’m feelin’ the energy. But then, I see a guy juggling fire. I’m like, “What the heck? Is this a circus or a festival?” It’s wild! Suddenly, I spot my barrels. They’re all lined up, lookin’ good. I feel this rush of pride. I made those! But then, I see a kid knock one over. My heart drops. I’m like, “Noooo!” But the kid just laughs. I can’t help but chuckle too. Kids, man. As the night goes on, I’m buzzin’. Fireworks explode above, and I’m just standing there, soaking it all in. Sorbolo is alive! I’m happy, I’m tired, but mostly, I’m grateful. Finally, I head home, my feet killin’ me. I pass by the old church on Piazza della Libertà. It’s beautiful at night. I think about how lucky I am to live here. Sorbolo, with its quirks and chaos, is my home. So yeah, that was my day. Intense, emotional, and totally worth it. Can’t wait to do it all again tomorrow!
