Man, what a day! I swear, being a parachutist firefighter in Traversetolo is like riding a rollercoaster with no seatbelt. So, I wake up, right? Sun’s shining, birds are chirping, and I’m thinking, “Today’s gonna be chill.” Ha! Spoiler alert: it was NOT chill. First off, I grab my gear and head out. I’m cruising down Via Roma, and I’m like, “This place is so cute.” Little cafes, people sipping espresso, the whole vibe. But then, BAM! Sirens blaring. My heart drops. I know what that means. We get a call about a fire on Via Garibaldi. I’m like, “Great, just what I needed.” So, I hop in the truck, and we’re zooming through the streets. I can see the smoke from a mile away. It’s like a scene from a movie, but not the good kind. We get there, and it’s chaos. Flames are licking the sky, and I’m thinking, “This is gonna be a wild ride.” I strap on my parachute—yeah, I know, sounds crazy, but it’s how we roll. I jump in, and the adrenaline hits me like a freight train. As I’m descending, I see the crowd. People are freaking out, some are filming on their phones. I’m like, “Dude, put the phone down and help!” But nope, they’re more interested in their TikTok fame. Ugh, people these days. I land, and it’s go time. I’m running towards the fire, and I can feel the heat. It’s intense, man. I grab the hose, and it’s like wrestling a giant snake. I’m spraying water everywhere, trying to tame this beast. And then, outta nowhere, I see a cat stuck on a roof. Seriously? A cat? I’m yelling, “Get the cat!” But no one’s listening. So, I climb up, and let me tell you, that cat was NOT happy. It’s hissing and scratching, and I’m like, “Chill, I’m here to save you!” Finally, I get it, and the crowd goes wild. I’m a hero! Or so I thought. Just when I think it’s over, I hear a loud bang. A propane tank explodes nearby. My heart stops. I dive for cover, and I’m thinking, “This is it. I’m done.” But I get up, and we keep fighting the fire. Hours pass, and we finally get it under control. I’m drenched in sweat, soot everywhere. I look like a raccoon. But hey, I saved a cat, right? That’s gotta count for something. As I’m packing up, I see a little kid running towards me. He’s holding a drawing he made. It’s a picture of me, with a big fire and a cat. I can’t help but smile. “Thanks, buddy!” I say. That made my day. So, I head back to the station, exhausted but happy. Traversetolo, you crazy little town, you never fail to surprise me. I love this place, even when it drives me nuts. And that’s a day in the life of a parachutist firefighter. Just another Tuesday, right?
