Man, what a day! I’m tellin’ ya, being a sharpener in Abashiri is like riding a rollercoaster blindfolded. So, I wake up, right? Sun’s barely up, and I’m already feelin’ the vibes of this crazy city. Abashiri, man, it’s got this chill but wild energy. First thing, I hit up the local coffee shop on Koshimizu Street. Best coffee ever! I mean, I’m not a coffee snob, but this stuff? Pure magic. I grab my usual, a double shot of espresso, and I’m buzzin’ like a bee. I’m ready to tackle the day. So, I’m walkin’ down the street, and I see this dude, right? He’s tryin’ to catch a bus at the Abashiri Station. But the bus? It’s late. Like, really late. He’s lookin’ at his watch, then at the sky, like it’s gonna help. I can’t help but laugh. I mean, c’mon, man! It’s Japan! Buses are supposed to be on time! Then, I get to my shop on Shiretoko Street. It’s a small place, but it’s mine. I love it. I got my tools all lined up, ready to make some blades shine. But then, bam! The power goes out. Just like that. I’m standin’ there in the dark, like, “Seriously?!” I’m about to lose it. But then, I hear this knock. It’s my buddy Kenji. He’s got a flashlight and a smile. “Let’s make the best of it!” he says. I’m like, “Dude, we’re sharpeners, not survivalists!” But we end up crackin’ jokes in the dark, and it’s actually kinda fun. After a while, the power comes back. Thank goodness! I get back to work, and this lady walks in. She’s got this old, rusty knife. I mean, it looks like it’s been through a war. I’m thinkin’, “What do you want me to do with this?” But she’s all, “Make it sharp again!” Challenge accepted! I go to town on that knife. I’m grindin’, polishing, and by the end, it’s like a mirror. She’s so happy, she almost cries. I’m feelin’ like a rockstar. “You’re a magician!” she says. I’m like, “Nah, just a sharpener.” But inside, I’m puffin’ my chest out. Then, I step outside for a breather. The view of the Sea of Okhotsk is insane! The waves are crashin’, and the sky’s all dramatic. I’m thinkin’ about how lucky I am to be here. But then, I see this seagull swoop down and steal someone’s lunch. I’m dyin’ laughing. Like, dude, that bird’s got guts! Later, I head over to the Abashiri Prison Museum. I know, I know, it sounds weird, but it’s actually cool. The history, the stories, it’s wild. I’m walkin’ through, and I can’t help but think about how different life was back then. Makes my sharpener problems seem tiny. But then, I get a call. It’s my mom. She’s all worried about me. “Are you eating enough?” Classic mom move. I’m like, “Yeah, Mom, I’m fine!” But I realize I haven’t eaten since breakfast. Oops. So, I grab some ramen at this little joint on Koshimizu Street. Best decision ever! The broth is rich, the noodles are perfect. I’m slurping away, and life is good again. As I’m walkin’ back to my shop, I see the sunset over the sea. It’s like the sky’s on fire. I stop, just takin’ it all in. Abashiri, man, it’s got this magic. Finally, I close up shop, and I’m exhausted but happy. I think about all the craziness of the day. The power outage, the knife, the seagull, my mom. It’s all part of this wild ride. So yeah, that was my day in Abashiri. Full of ups and downs, but wouldn’t trade it for anything. Just another day in the life of a sharpener, ya know?
