Man, what a day! Seriously, I can’t even. So, I’m a sign language interpreter, right? And today in Ageoshimo was just... wow. Like, I woke up thinking it’d be chill. Spoiler alert: it was NOT chill. First off, I hit the streets of Ageoshimo, and lemme tell ya, the vibe was off the charts. The sun was shining, but it was that weird, sticky heat. You know, the kind that makes you feel like you’re walking through soup? Ugh. I was cruising down Kōen-dōri, and I swear, the cherry blossoms were in full bloom. So pretty! But then, BAM! A pigeon poops on my shoulder. Like, really? Thanks, universe. Just what I needed. Anyway, I had this assignment at the community center on Shōwa-dōri. It was a workshop for deaf kids learning about art. Super cool, right? I was pumped! But when I got there, the place was packed. I mean, like sardines in a can. Kids everywhere, running around, laughing, and I’m just trying to keep my cool. So, I’m signing away, and these kids are just so full of energy. One kid, Yuki, he’s like a little tornado. He kept asking me to sign “superhero” over and over. I’m like, “Dude, I’m trying to keep up here!” But he was relentless. So, I started signing “superhero” with dramatic flair. You know, arms flying, big gestures. The kids loved it! I felt like a rockstar for a sec. But then, outta nowhere, this kid starts crying. Like, full-on sobbing. I’m thinking, “Oh no, what did I do?” Turns out, he just wanted to sign “mom” but couldn’t remember. My heart just broke. So, I knelt down, signed “mom” with him, and we both ended up tearing up. It was a moment, man. After that, I needed a breather. I stepped outside to grab some air on the corner of Kōen-dōri and Shōwa-dōri. And guess what? I see this street performer, right? He’s juggling and doing backflips. I’m like, “Dude, how are you not falling on your face?” But then, he drops a ball, and it rolls right to me. I pick it up, and he’s like, “You wanna try?” I’m like, “Nah, I’m good.” But then, I thought, “Why not?” So, I gave it a shot. Spoiler: I dropped it. The crowd laughed, and I just rolled with it. Then, I had to rush back to the center. I was late! I sprinted down the street, dodging people like I was in some weird video game. I finally made it back, and the kids were still buzzing. We wrapped up the workshop, and I felt like a million bucks. But then, as I was leaving, I bumped into this old lady on the street. She was trying to cross, and I was like, “Let me help you!” But she was super stubborn. “I can do it myself!” she said. I was like, “Okay, grandma, you do you.” But then, she almost tripped! I caught her just in time. She looked at me like I was her knight in shining armor. I was like, “See? I told ya!” By the end of the day, I was exhausted but happy. I walked back down Kōen-dōri, the sun setting behind the mountains. The sky was all pink and orange, and I just felt grateful. Ageoshimo, you crazy little city, you’ve got my heart. So yeah, that was my day. Full of ups and downs, but that’s life, right? Can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings!
