Man, what a day! I’m tellin’ ya, being a bone cutter in Annaka is like riding a rollercoaster blindfolded. So, I wake up, right? Sun’s blazin’ through my window on Kōen-dōri. I’m like, “Great, another day of slicing and dicing.” But today? Today was different. First off, I hit up my fave spot, the little ramen joint on Shōwa-dōri. You know the one? The one with the crazy good tonkotsu? I’m there, slurping away, when this dude walks in. He’s got a bone tattoo on his arm. I’m like, “Bro, you’re in the wrong place. This ain’t a bone show.” He just laughs and orders the spiciest thing on the menu. I’m thinkin’, “Good luck with that, man.” So, I get to the clinic, right? It’s on the corner of Kōen-dōri and Kōbō-dōri. I’m ready to cut some bones, but the vibe is off. My assistant, Yuki, is all frazzled. She’s like, “We got a full house today!” I’m like, “Great, just what I need.” First patient walks in. Old dude, can barely walk. He’s got a leg that looks like it’s been through a meat grinder. I’m like, “What happened, man?” He goes, “I tripped over my cat.” I’m like, “Seriously? A cat?” I can’t help but laugh. Then, outta nowhere, the fire alarm goes off. I’m thinkin’, “This is it. The end of my bone-cutting career.” Everyone’s panicking, running around. I’m just standing there, holding a saw, like, “What do I do?” Yuki’s yelling, “Get out!” I’m like, “But my tools!” Finally, we all spill out onto the street. It’s chaos on Kōen-dōri. Fire trucks zooming by, people looking confused. I’m just standing there, covered in scrubs, holding a saw. I must’ve looked like a horror movie extra. After the fire drill, we get back inside. Turns out it was a false alarm. Phew! But now I’m all jittery. Next patient is a kid. He’s got a broken arm from skateboarding. I’m like, “Dude, you gotta be careful!” He just shrugs. Kids these days, right? Then, I get a call from my buddy Kenji. He’s at the park near Annaka Castle. He’s like, “You gotta come see this!” I’m like, “Dude, I’m working!” But he’s persistent. So, I sneak out during lunch. The park is packed. Families, kids, and there’s this street performer doing crazy tricks. I’m laughing so hard, I almost forget about work. Kenji’s like, “See? Life’s not all about bones!” I’m like, “Yeah, but bones pay the bills!” Back at the clinic, I’m exhausted. The last patient is a lady with a broken toe. I’m like, “Really? A toe?” She’s all dramatic, “It’s the worst pain ever!” I’m thinkin’, “Lady, I’ve seen worse.” Finally, I wrap up. It’s dark outside, and I’m walking home on Kōen-dōri. I can’t help but smile. Annaka’s got this vibe, ya know? The streets are alive, the lights are bright. I pass by the little shops, the smell of yakitori in the air. I get home, plop on the couch, and think about the day. Crazy, right? From cats to fire alarms to broken bones. Annaka, you never cease to amaze me. I’m beat, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything. Tomorrow’s another day, and who knows what’ll happen next?
