Man, what a day! I’m tellin’ ya, being an abrasive blaster in Esashi is like riding a rollercoaster blindfolded. So, I wake up, right? Sun’s shining, birds are chirping, and I’m like, “Today’s gonna be chill.” Spoiler alert: it wasn’t. First off, I hit up the local konbini on Kiyokawa Street. Grabbed my usual—onigiri and a can of iced coffee. I swear, that coffee is like rocket fuel. Anyway, I’m munching away, and this old dude starts chatting me up. He’s all like, “You know, Esashi used to be a fishing town.” I’m nodding, pretending to care, but inside I’m like, “Dude, I gotta blast some stuff today!” So, I head to the job site, right? It’s on the outskirts, near the Esashi River. Beautiful view, but man, the wind was wild. I’m setting up my gear, and outta nowhere, this gust hits me. My safety goggles fly off! I’m scrambling, trying to catch ‘em like they’re a runaway dog. I finally get ‘em back, but now I’m covered in dust. Great start, huh? Then, I get into the groove. You know that feeling when you’re blasting away, and it’s just you and the machine? Pure bliss. But then, BAM! The compressor starts acting up. I’m like, “Seriously? Not today!” I’m sweating bullets, cursing under my breath. I mean, come on, I just wanna do my job! After I fix it—thank you, duct tape—I’m back at it. The sound of the blast is like music to my ears. I’m in my zone, and then I see this little kid watching me from across the street. He’s got this huge grin, and I’m thinking, “Man, I’m a rockstar to this kid!” I give him a thumbs up, and he’s just bouncing around like he’s on a sugar high. But then, outta nowhere, this lady walks by. She’s all dressed up, probably heading to some fancy tea ceremony or whatever. She stops, looks at me, and gives me the dirtiest look. Like, lady, I’m just trying to earn a living here! I wanted to shout, “It’s not my fault you chose the wrong street!” But I just smiled and kept blasting. Finally, the day winds down. I’m packing up, and I can’t help but think about how Esashi is such a mix of old and new. You got the traditional buildings on one side, and then there’s the modern stuff popping up everywhere. It’s like, “What’s next? A skyscraper next to a shrine?” As I’m walking back, I pass by the Esashi Shrine. It’s peaceful, and I take a moment to breathe. I’m thinking about how lucky I am to work in a place with so much history. But then, I trip over a rock. Classic me, right? I laugh it off, because what else can you do? By the time I get home, I’m exhausted but happy. I plop down on my couch, and all I can think about is that kid’s smile. It’s the little things, ya know? Esashi might be a small city, but it’s got a big heart. And even on the craziest days, I wouldn’t trade it for anything. So yeah, that was my day. Just another wild ride in Esashi. Can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings!
