Man, lemme tell ya about my day in Hiroshima. Wow, just wow. I’m a fisherman, right? But today? Today was a whole different fishin’ trip. So, I roll into Hiroshima, right? First thing I notice is the vibe. It’s chill but also kinda heavy. You can feel the history, ya know? Like, I’m walkin’ down Hondori Street, and it’s packed with people. Tourists everywhere, takin’ pics of the A-Bomb Dome. I mean, it’s a sight, but it hits ya hard. I’m thinkin’, “Dude, this place has seen some stuff.” But then, I spot this little ramen shop. I’m like, “Heck yeah, I need some fuel.” I order the tonkotsu, and man, it’s like a hug in a bowl. Slurp it down, and I’m feelin’ good. But then, bam! My phone buzzes. My buddy, Taro, texts me. He’s like, “Yo, meet me at Peace Memorial Park.” I’m like, “Sure, why not?” So I head over. Now, Peace Memorial Park? It’s beautiful but also super somber. I’m walkin’ around, and I see all these kids playin’ and laughin’. It’s a weird contrast, ya know? I’m tryin’ to soak it all in, but then I trip over a stone. Classic me, right? I’m like, “Great, now I’m the clumsy foreigner.” Taro shows up, and he’s all excited. He’s like, “Dude, you gotta see the river!” So we head to the Motoyasu River. The water’s glistening, and I’m thinkin’, “This is where I should be fishin’.” But instead, I’m just standin’ there, lookin’ at the water. Then, outta nowhere, this old man starts talkin’ to us. He’s like, “You know, this river used to be full of fish.” I’m like, “Yeah, I can imagine.” But then he goes on about how the bomb changed everything. It’s heavy stuff, man. I’m tryin’ to keep it light, but it’s hard. After that, we decide to grab some drinks. We hit up a konbini, and I’m loadin’ up on snacks. I grab some onigiri, and Taro’s like, “You gotta try the umeboshi.” I’m like, “What’s that?” He hands me one, and I pop it in my mouth. Whoa! It’s like a flavor explosion! I’m laughin’ and spittin’ it out at the same time. Taro’s crackin’ up. Then, we wander over to Shukkeien Garden. It’s gorgeous, man. The trees, the pond, everything. I’m takin’ pics, feelin’ all artsy. But then, I see this sign about the history of the garden. It’s been around since the 1600s! I’m like, “Dude, I can’t even keep a plant alive for a week.” As the sun starts settin’, the sky turns this crazy orange. I’m thinkin’, “This is it. This is the moment.” But then, I hear this loud noise. Turns out, it’s a festival! Fireworks start goin’ off, and I’m like a kid again. Taro and I are jumpin’ around, tryin’ to catch the best view. But then, I get a bit too excited. I spill my drink all over myself. I’m soaked, and Taro’s laughin’ his head off. I’m like, “Great, now I smell like a walking sake barrel.” The night wraps up, and I’m headin’ back to my place. I’m thinkin’ about how this city is a mix of joy and sorrow. It’s wild. Hiroshima’s got this spirit, ya know? It’s resilient. So yeah, that was my day. Full of surprises, laughs, and a bit of history. I’m definitely comin’ back. Next time, I’ll bring my fishing rod. Who knows? Maybe I’ll catch a memory or two.
