Man, what a day! I’m tellin’ ya, being a carpenter in Innoshima is like riding a rollercoaster blindfolded. So, I wake up, right? Sun’s shining, birds chirping, and I’m thinkin’, “Today’s gonna be chill.” Ha! Spoiler alert: it wasn’t. First off, I hit up the local konbini on Kōda Street for my morning fix. Grabbed a couple of onigiri and a can of that sweet, sweet iced coffee. I swear, that stuff is like liquid gold. But then, I spill half of it on my shirt. Great start, huh? I’m walkin’ around lookin’ like I just lost a fight with a rice ball. So, I head to the job site on the other side of the island. Innoshima’s got these narrow streets, right? Like, you could barely fit a bicycle through some of ‘em. I’m dodging cars and scooters, and I’m like, “C’mon, people! I’m just tryna build some stuff here!” Finally, I get to the site. It’s this old house on Shiroyama Street. Beautiful place, but man, it’s seen better days. I’m all pumped to start workin’, but then I find out the client wants a custom bookshelf. No biggie, right? Wrong! They want it to fit this weird nook. I’m talkin’ like, “What even is this shape?” It’s like a puzzle designed by a drunk octopus. I’m measuring, cutting, and sweating like a pig. And then, outta nowhere, this stray cat shows up. Just strolls in like it owns the place. I’m tryin’ to work, and this little furball decides my saw is a toy. I’m like, “Dude, not cool!” But I can’t help but laugh. It’s just chillin’ there, lookin’ at me like, “You got a problem, human?” Then, the client shows up. She’s all excited, and I’m thinkin’, “Great, she’s gonna love it!” But then she starts nitpicking every little thing. “Oh, I wanted it in blue, not brown.” I’m like, “Lady, it’s wood! It’s not a mood ring!” I mean, c’mon! After a long back-and-forth, I finally get her to chill. We settle on a nice stain, and I’m feelin’ good again. But then, just as I’m about to finish, it starts pouring. I’m talkin’ like the sky opened up and dumped a bucket of water on me. I’m soaked, my tools are soaked, and I’m just standin’ there like, “Really? This is how we’re doin’ it today?” But then, outta nowhere, the sun pops back out. It’s like the universe is playin’ tricks on me. I’m laughing, I’m crying, I’m just a mess. I finish the bookshelf, and it actually looks pretty dope. I’m proud, ya know? As I’m packin’ up, I take a stroll down to the waterfront. The view from Innoshima is insane. You got the Seto Inland Sea glistening, and the mountains in the background. I’m just standing there, takin’ it all in. It’s moments like this that make the craziness worth it. I head back home, and I’m thinkin’ about that cat. I swear, it was judging me the whole time. I get home, kick off my shoes, and just crash on the couch. What a day, man. What a day. So yeah, that’s my life as a carpenter in Innoshima. Full of surprises, a bit of chaos, and a whole lotta love for this crazy little island. Can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings!
