Man, what a day! Seriously, I’m still reeling from it. So, I’m a typhlopedagogue, right? Yeah, fancy word for teaching visually impaired kids. But today? Today was a whole different ball game in Kisai. First off, I woke up late. Like, super late. My alarm? Totally betrayed me. I jumped outta bed, threw on whatever I could find. I mean, who needs matching socks anyway? Not me! I dashed outta my apartment on Kōen-dōri, barely remembering to grab my bag. Kisai is this cute little city, right? It’s got that small-town vibe but with a twist. The streets are lined with cherry blossoms, and when they bloom? OMG, it’s like a pink explosion! But today? No blossoms, just my chaotic life. So, I’m hustling down the street, and I hit up the local konbini (convenience store) on Kōen-dōri. I’m like, “Gimme a coffee, stat!” The guy behind the counter? He’s just chillin’, taking his sweet time. I’m standing there, tapping my foot, thinking, “Dude, I got kids to teach!” Finally, I get my coffee, but it’s lukewarm. Ugh! I rush to the school, and guess what? Traffic on Kōen-dōri is a nightmare. I’m stuck behind this ancient bus that’s moving at a snail’s pace. I swear, I could’ve walked faster. I’m yelling at the bus like it can hear me. “C’mon, old man! Move it!” Finally, I get to the school, and the kids are already there. They’re all hyped up, and I’m like, “Okay, let’s do this!” We’re working on some cool stuff today—tactile maps of Kisai. I’m trying to explain how the river flows through the city, and one kid, Yuki, raises his hand. “Sensei, what’s a river?” I’m like, “Dude, it’s water that moves!” But then, we hit a snag. One of the kids, Sora, starts crying. Turns out, he lost his favorite toy. My heart just sank. I mean, how do you comfort a kid who can’t see? I’m trying to be all soothing, but inside, I’m like, “Why can’t I just wave a magic wand?” After class, I decide to take a breather. I stroll down to the Kisai River. It’s so peaceful there. I sit on a bench, and the breeze is nice. I’m thinking about how lucky I am to work with these kids. But then, BAM! A pigeon poops on my shoulder. Seriously?! I’m like, “Great, just what I needed!” I head back to the school, and on the way, I pass by the old temple on Kōen-dōri. It’s this beautiful place, but today, it’s packed with tourists. I’m dodging people left and right. “Excuse me, coming through!” I feel like I’m in an obstacle course. Finally, I get back, and the kids are all buzzing about a festival happening in Kisai. They’re so excited! I’m like, “What festival?” Turns out, it’s the annual cherry blossom festival. I’m thinking, “Oh man, I gotta take them!” So, we plan a field trip. I’m pumped! But then, I remember I have to deal with the paperwork. Ugh, adulting is the worst. I’m sitting there, filling out forms, and I’m like, “Why can’t I just be a kid again?” The day wraps up, and I’m exhausted. I head home, and as I walk down Kōen-dōri, I can’t help but smile. Kisai is quirky, chaotic, and full of surprises. Just like my day. I can’t wait to see those kids’ faces at the festival. So yeah, that was my day. Full of ups and downs, but hey, that’s life, right? Can’t wait for tomorrow!
