Man, what a day! Seriously, I can’t even. So, I wake up in Kitagata, right? The sun’s shining, birds are chirping, and I’m like, “Today’s gonna be chill.” Spoiler alert: it was NOT chill. First off, I’m cruising down Kōen-dōri, thinking about grabbing some breakfast at that little café, you know, the one with the cute cat outside? Yeah, that one. But guess what? It’s closed! Like, what even? I’m starving, and I’m already hangry. So, I settle for a convenience store on the corner of Kōen-dōri and Shōwa-dōri. I grab some onigiri and a can of iced coffee. Not the best, but hey, it’s food. Then, I head to work. I’m an admin, so my life is basically spreadsheets and emails. But today? Oh man, today was a rollercoaster. I get to the office on Kōen-dōri, and my boss is already in a mood. Like, chill dude, it’s just Monday. He’s ranting about some project that went sideways. I’m just nodding, trying not to roll my eyes. Suddenly, the fire alarm goes off! I’m like, “Great, just what I needed.” We all pile out onto the street, and I’m standing there, watching the fire trucks zoom by. I’m thinking, “This better not be a drill.” Turns out, it was just some kid messing around with fireworks. Ugh, kids these days. After that chaos, I finally sit down to tackle my emails. But wait! My computer crashes. Like, seriously? I’m about to lose it. I’m staring at the screen, willing it to come back to life. It’s like it knows I’m stressed. I take a deep breath, and just when I’m about to scream, it boots back up. Phew! But then, my coworker, Yuki, comes in with this huge smile. She’s like, “Guess what? I just got engaged!” I’m like, “OMG, congrats!” Totally forgot about my bad day for a sec. We all gather around, and she shows us the ring. It’s sparkly and gorgeous, and I’m just so happy for her. Then, outta nowhere, my phone buzzes. It’s my buddy Kenji. He’s like, “Dude, you gotta come to the Matsuri tonight!” I’m like, “What? I can’t! I have work!” But then I think, “Screw it, I need a break.” So, I text him back, “I’m in!” Fast forward to the evening. I’m at the Matsuri, and it’s lit! The streets of Kitagata are alive with lights and sounds. I’m munching on yakitori, and it’s so good. I run into Yuki again, and she’s dancing with her fiancé. I’m just vibing, feeling the energy. But then, I see this guy trying to steal a lantern! Like, what’s wrong with people? I’m about to go full-on superhero mode, but the festival staff catches him. Thank goodness! I can’t deal with more drama today. As the night winds down, I’m walking back home along the river. The stars are out, and I’m just reflecting on the day. It was a mess, but it was MY mess. Kitagata, with its crazy streets and unexpected twists, always keeps me on my toes. I get home, plop on my bed, and think, “What a day.” I’m exhausted but happy. Tomorrow’s a new day, and who knows what Kitagata has in store for me?
