Man, what a day! I’m tellin’ ya, being a lifeguard in Maizuru is like riding a rollercoaster. One minute you’re chillin’, the next you’re in the middle of a freakin’ drama. So, let’s rewind to this morning. I roll up to Maizuru Beach, right? The sun’s shining, waves are crashing, and I’m thinkin’, “Today’s gonna be a breeze.” But nah, life had other plans. First off, I’m settin’ up my station on the sand near the Maizuru Bay. You know, the spot where all the tourists snap pics of the beautiful coastline? Yeah, that one. So, I’m just sittin’ there, watchin’ the kids play, when I spot this dude, like, totally flailing in the water. I’m like, “Oh snap, here we go!” I jump up, whistle in hand, and sprint down the beach. I’m dodging beach balls and sunbathers like I’m in some kind of obstacle course. Finally, I reach him. He’s gasping for air, and I’m thinkin’, “Dude, you’re not a fish!” I grab him and pull him to safety. He’s coughing and sputtering, and I’m just relieved he’s okay. But then, he looks at me and says, “Thanks, man! I thought I was gonna be a mermaid!” Like, seriously? A mermaid? I can’t even. After that, I’m feelin’ pretty good, right? I saved a life! But then, I see this group of teenagers on the other side of the beach. They’re blasting music, and I’m like, “Ugh, not again.” I walk over, and they’re all like, “Chill, bro!” But I’m not having it. I’m like, “This ain’t a club, it’s a beach!” Then, outta nowhere, this little kid runs up to me, all wide-eyed. He’s like, “Mister, can you help me find my mom?” My heart just drops. I’m like, “Of course, buddy!” So, we start searching. We check the snack shack on Kameyama Street, then the restrooms near the Maizuru Park. No luck. Finally, we spot her near the pier, takin’ selfies with the view of the Maizuru Red Bridge. I’m like, “There she is!” The kid runs off, and I’m just standing there, feelin’ like a hero again. But then, I realize I’m starving. I head over to this little food stall on the beach. They’ve got the best yakitori. I’m drooling just thinkin’ about it. But guess what? They’re outta chicken! I’m like, “Are you kidding me?” So, I settle for some fries, which is a total letdown. As the day goes on, I’m just trying to keep things chill. But then, I see this couple arguing near the water. Like, come on, guys! It’s a beautiful day in Maizuru! I’m just trying to enjoy the view of the Wakasa Bay, and you’re ruining it! I’m about to intervene when the guy suddenly throws his hat into the water. I’m like, “Dude, that’s not how you solve problems!” But then, he jumps in after it. I can’t help but laugh. Like, really? You’re gonna swim for a hat? By the end of the day, I’m exhausted. I’ve saved a life, reunited a kid with his mom, and witnessed a hat rescue. I’m packing up my stuff, and the sun’s setting over the bay. It’s beautiful, honestly. I take a moment to just breathe it all in. Maizuru, man. It’s wild. It’s crazy. But I wouldn’t trade it for anything. Just another day in the life of a lifeguard. Can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings!
