Man, what a day! I’m tellin’ ya, being a barber in Minamiawaji is like riding a rollercoaster blindfolded. So, I roll into the shop on Nakahama Street, coffee in hand, ready to tackle whatever comes my way. The sun’s shining, and I’m thinkin’, “Today’s gonna be chill.” Spoiler alert: it wasn’t. First client walks in, this dude named Kenji. He’s got hair like a bird’s nest. I’m like, “Bro, what’s goin’ on up there?” He laughs, says he’s been busy with the local fishing tournament down at the harbor. I’m like, “Nice! Catch anything good?” He just shrugs. Typical fisherman, right? Anyway, I start snippin’, and he’s tellin’ me about the giant fish he almost caught. I’m all in, like, “Dude, that’s epic!” But then, outta nowhere, he gets a call. It’s his wife. He answers, and I swear, I hear her yellin’ through the phone. Something about dinner plans. I’m just tryin’ to focus on the hair, man! So, I finish up Kenji’s cut, and he looks fresh. He’s all smiles, but then he drops a bomb. “I gotta go, my wife’s gonna kill me!” I’m like, “Dude, you just got a killer haircut! Don’t let her ruin it!” He bolts outta there like a bat outta hell. Classic. Next up is this lady, Yuki. She’s super chill, always comes in for her regular trim. We chat about the Minamiawaji Matsuri coming up. I’m pumped! The streets are gonna be packed with food stalls and fireworks. I’m like, “Yuki, you gotta try the takoyaki at the festival!” She laughs, says she’s more into the yakitori. I mean, who can blame her? That stuff’s fire! But then, outta nowhere, the power goes out. I’m like, “What the heck?!” The whole block goes dark. I’m standin’ there with scissors in hand, feelin’ like a deer in headlights. Yuki’s just sittin’ there, chillin’ in the dark. I’m like, “This is not how I pictured my day!” After a few minutes, the lights flicker back on. Thank goodness! But now, I’m behind schedule. I’m rushin’ through the next few cuts, and my mind’s racing. I’m thinkin’ about the beach at Minamiawaji, how I wanna hit up the sand after work. The waves, the sun, the whole vibe. But nope, gotta keep snippin’. Then, this guy walks in. I swear, he’s got the wildest hair I’ve ever seen. Like, he just rolled outta bed and decided to come see me. I’m tryin’ to hold back laughter. I’m like, “Dude, what’s your secret?” He just grins and says he’s been surfing at the beach all day. I’m like, “Man, I’m jealous!” As I’m cuttin’ his hair, he starts talkin’ about the best surf spots around Minamiawaji. He mentions the waves at Awa Beach, and I’m like, “I gotta check that out!” He’s all hyped, and I’m just tryin’ to keep my scissors steady. Finally, the day winds down. I’m exhausted but happy. I clean up the shop, and as I’m lockin’ up, I see the sunset over the harbor. It’s beautiful, man. The colors are poppin’, and I’m just standin’ there, takin’ it all in. I think about the crazy day I had. The laughs, the surprises, the power outage. Minamiawaji, you never cease to amaze me. I hop on my bike, ready to hit the beach. Tomorrow’s another day, and I can’t wait to see what it brings. But for now, it’s time to chill.
