Man, today was a wild ride in Niigata! Like, seriously, I can’t even. So, I woke up, right? Sun shining, birds chirping, and I’m like, “Today’s gonna be chill.” Spoiler alert: it was NOT chill. First off, I hit up the local konbini on Nishikigaoka Street. Gotta love those onigiri! I grabbed a tuna mayo one, my fave. But then, bam! I spill soy sauce all over my shirt. Great start, huh? I’m standing there, looking like a walking sushi disaster. Then I had to rush to a community meeting at the Niigata City Hall. Traffic was a mess on Bandai Bridge. I swear, I could’ve walked faster. I’m stuck in this jam, and I’m like, “C’mon, people! It’s not rush hour!” Finally, I get there, and guess what? I’m late. Classic me. The meeting was intense. We were discussing the new park project on the waterfront. I’m all for it, but some folks were like, “Nah, we need more parking!” Ugh, parking? Really? We live in a city with beautiful views of the Sea of Japan, and they’re worried about parking? I almost lost it. But then, outta nowhere, this old dude stands up. He’s like, “We need more trees, not cars!” And I’m like, “Yasss, grandpa!” He totally saved the vibe. Everyone started clapping, and I felt this wave of hope. Maybe Niigata’s got some heart after all. After the meeting, I decided to take a stroll down Furumachi. It’s this cute area with shops and cafes. I needed a pick-me-up, so I hit up this little coffee shop. The barista was super chill, and I got a matcha latte. It was like drinking a hug. Seriously, I could’ve stayed there forever. But then, I stepped outside, and it started pouring. Like, outta nowhere! I’m sprinting down the street, dodging puddles like I’m in some weird action movie. I ducked into a shop on Ote-machi to escape the rain. Turns out, it was a vintage store! I found this rad jacket from the ‘90s. Totally my style. I had to buy it. So, I’m walking out, feeling like a million bucks, and guess what? The rain stops. Perfect timing, right? I decided to head to the Niigata Prefectural Museum of Modern Art. I love that place! The art is so cool, and the building itself is a work of art. I was wandering around, lost in thought, when I bumped into an old friend. We hadn’t seen each other in ages! We ended up chatting for hours. I was so happy! We reminisced about our crazy college days, and I couldn’t help but laugh. Niigata has this way of bringing people together, ya know? But then, as I was leaving, I realized I lost my wallet. Panic mode activated! I retraced my steps, checking every shop. I was about to cry. But then, I found it! It was in the vintage shop. I was so relieved, I could’ve hugged the shopkeeper. Finally, I headed home, exhausted but happy. Niigata, you crazy city, you’ve got my heart. From the soy sauce spills to the surprise rain, today was a rollercoaster. I wouldn’t trade it for anything. Here’s to more wild days in this beautiful place!
