Man, what a day! I’m tellin’ ya, being a lumberjack in Obu is wild. I woke up, sun barely peekin’ through my window, and I thought, “Today’s gonna be chill.” Ha! Spoiler alert: it was NOT chill. First off, I hit up the local konbini on Kōen-dōri. You know, the one with the best onigiri? I’m all about that tuna mayo life. Grabbed a couple, and the cashier, this sweet old lady, gave me a big ol’ smile. I’m thinkin’, “Aww, she’s the best.” But then, BAM! My phone buzzes. My buddy Taro texts me, “Dude, we’re outta firewood!” Like, seriously? I just got my breakfast! So, I chugged my coffee and raced to the lumberyard. It’s on Shinkai-dōri, right by the river. The view there is sick, man. You got the river glistening, and the mountains in the back. But today? Nah, it was all about the chaos. I get there, and it’s like a scene from a bad movie. Logs everywhere, and my boss, Mr. Tanaka, is yellin’ like a madman. “Get it together, guys!” I’m like, “Chill, Tanaka! I’m on it!” But inside, I’m fumin’. I mean, I just wanted my onigiri and some peace. Instead, I’m lugging these heavy logs, and my back’s already screamin’. Then, outta nowhere, this kid on a bike zooms by. He’s like, “Hey, lumberjack!” I turn, and he’s got this huge grin. I’m thinkin’, “What’s this kid’s deal?” He shouts, “You’re my hero!” I’m like, “Hero? Bro, I’m just tryin’ to survive!” But it made me smile, y’know? Kids can be so pure. After a few hours of bustin’ my butt, I finally get a break. I head to the park near Obu Station. It’s a nice spot, with cherry blossoms and all that jazz. I plop down on a bench, and guess what? I see a couple of old dudes playin’ shogi. They’re so into it, it’s like a battle of wits. I’m just munchin’ on my onigiri, watchin’ them go at it. But then, I hear this loud crash. I whip around, and some dude just knocked over a whole stack of boxes. I’m like, “Dude, what are you doin’?” He looks at me, all sheepish, and says, “I was tryin’ to impress my girlfriend.” I can’t help but laugh. “Bro, you just impressed me with that fail!” After that, I head back to the yard. The sun’s settin’, and it’s kinda beautiful. But then, I see Tanaka again. He’s still on my case. “You’re late!” I’m like, “Dude, I just saved a kid’s day!” He rolls his eyes. Classic Tanaka. Finally, we wrap up, and I’m dead tired. I stroll down to the river, just to chill. The water’s flowin’, and I can finally breathe. I think about how crazy today was. From onigiri to logs to kids on bikes, it’s a wild ride. As I’m sittin’ there, I realize, this is Obu. It’s messy, it’s loud, but it’s home. And even on the craziest days, I wouldn’t trade it for anything. I mean, who else gets to say they’re a lumberjack in a city like this? So yeah, that was my day. Just another day in Obu, full of surprises and a whole lotta heart. Can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings!
