Man, what a day! Seriously, Ofunato is wild. I woke up thinking it’d be just another boring research day. Nope! Not even close. So, I’m rollin’ outta bed, right? The sun’s shining, birds chirping, and I’m like, “Cool, let’s do this.” I grab my coffee from that little shop on Chuo-dori. Best coffee ever! I swear, it’s like liquid happiness. But then, bam! I spill it all over my notes. Great start, huh? I head to the Ofunato Bay area. The view is insane! The ocean’s all sparkly, and I’m just standing there, soaking it in. But then, I see this huge fishing boat. Like, massive! I’m thinking, “Dude, that’s a lotta fish.” But then I remember the tsunami in 2011. Ofunato got hit hard. It’s crazy how they rebuilt everything. Mad respect for the locals. Anyway, I’m walking down Sanbongi Street, and I see this little kid with a kite. He’s running around, laughing. I can’t help but smile. Kids are the best, right? But then, outta nowhere, this dog runs by and snags the kite! The kid’s face—priceless! I’m laughing so hard, I almost trip over my own feet. Then, I hit up the Ofunato Museum. Super cool place! They’ve got all this stuff about the local history. I’m reading about the fishing culture, and it hits me—these people are tough. Like, they’ve been through so much, but they keep going. Makes my research feel kinda lame, ya know? But then, I get a call. My boss is like, “We need those results ASAP!” Ugh, seriously? I’m in the middle of Ofunato, living my best life, and he wants me to crunch numbers? So annoying! I’m like, “Dude, chill. I’ll get it done.” But inside, I’m fuming. After that, I decide to take a break. I stroll down to the beach. The waves are crashing, and I’m just standing there, feeling the breeze. It’s so peaceful. But then, I see this group of tourists. They’re trying to take a selfie, but they can’t figure it out. I’m like, “C’mon, it’s not rocket science!” So, I help them out. They’re all grateful, and I’m like, “No biggie, just spreading the Ofunato love.” Then, I hit up a local izakaya for lunch. The food is bomb! I order some grilled fish and sake. I’m in heaven. But then, the waiter spills sake all over me. I’m soaked! I’m laughing, but inside, I’m like, “Really? Is this my life?” After lunch, I’m back to work. I’m sitting in the library on Kawai Street, trying to focus. But my mind keeps wandering. I can’t stop thinking about that kid and his kite. I mean, life’s too short to be serious all the time, right? Finally, I wrap up my day. I’m exhausted but happy. Ofunato is full of surprises. I love this place! It’s got heart, you know? I head back to my hotel, and as I’m walking, I see the sunset over the bay. It’s stunning. I pull out my phone to snap a pic, but my battery dies. Classic! So, yeah, that was my day in Ofunato. Full of ups and downs, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything. Can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings!
