Man, what a day! I swear, Tottori really knows how to throw a curveball. So, I wake up, right? Sun’s shining, birds chirping, and I’m like, “Today’s gonna be chill.” Ha! Spoiler alert: it was NOT chill. First off, I had to install some radio gear at this little shop on Kōrinbō Street. Nice place, but the owner, Mr. Tanaka, is a real character. He’s got this wild hair, like a mad scientist, and he talks a mile a minute. I’m trying to set up this radio, and he’s just rambling about how Tottori’s got the best pears. I mean, I get it, the Tottori pears are bomb, but dude, focus! Anyway, I finally get the radio working, and it’s blasting some J-Pop. I’m not a huge fan, but whatever. Then, outta nowhere, the power goes out! Like, seriously? I’m standing there, tools in hand, and the whole street goes dark. I’m thinking, “Great, just great.” So, I step outside, and it’s chaos. People are wandering around, looking confused. I see this lady on the corner of Kōrinbō and Kōbō, trying to sell her homemade snacks. She’s like, “You want some? They’re still good!” I’m like, “Lady, it’s pitch black! How do you expect me to eat that?” But she just laughs. I guess that’s Tottori for ya—always finding the bright side. After a bit, the lights flicker back on. Thank you, Tottori power gods! I rush back inside, and Mr. Tanaka is still going on about pears. I’m like, “Dude, can we talk about the radio?” But he’s too busy showing me his prized pear collection. I mean, they’re nice and all, but I’m here to work, not to be a fruit judge! Finally, I finish up and head to the next job. It’s on the outskirts, near the Tottori Sand Dunes. Man, those dunes are something else. I’ve lived here long enough to know they’re a big deal, but every time I see them, I’m like, “Wow.” It’s like a mini desert right in Japan. I half expect to see camels or something. So, I get to this house, and the lady there is super nice. She offers me tea, and I’m like, “Heck yeah!” But then, she starts telling me about her cat, Momo. Apparently, Momo is a “special” cat. I’m thinking, “What’s that mean?” Turns out, Momo has a thing for radio waves. No joke! She brings Momo over, and the cat just stares at my tools like they’re the Holy Grail. I’m cracking up. But then, as I’m setting up her radio, I accidentally drop a screw. It rolls under the couch, and I’m like, “Great, just great.” I’m crawling around, trying to fish it out, and Momo’s just watching me like I’m the biggest idiot ever. I finally get it, and the lady’s laughing. I’m like, “Yeah, yeah, laugh it up, lady.” After that, I’m finally done for the day. I’m walking back through Tottori, and I can’t help but smile. The streets are alive, people are out, and there’s this festival vibe in the air. I swing by the Tottori Castle ruins. It’s a bit of a hike, but the view is killer. I snap a pic, thinking, “This is why I love this place.” But then, I trip over a rock. Classic me, right? I’m sprawled out on the ground, and this old dude walks by. He just looks at me and says, “You okay, young man?” I’m like, “Yeah, just testing the ground for softness.” He chuckles and keeps walking. So, I finally make it home, exhausted but happy. Tottori, you crazy city, you’ve done it again. I can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings. Maybe more pears? Who knows!
