Man, what a day! I’m tellin’ ya, being a radio operator in Gunsan is like riding a rollercoaster blindfolded. So, I wake up, right? Sun’s shining, birds chirping, and I’m like, “Today’s gonna be chill.” Spoiler alert: it was NOT chill. First off, I hit up the local café on Jeonju Road. You know, the one with the weirdly named coffee? “Gunsan Grit”? Yeah, I ordered that. Tasted like burnt rubber. But hey, caffeine is caffeine, am I right? I chugged it down and headed to the station. As I’m settin’ up my gear, I hear this commotion outside. I peek out, and there’s a parade! Like, a legit parade. I’m thinkin’, “What’s the occasion?” Turns out, it’s some festival I’ve never heard of. People are dancing, drumming, and I’m just standing there like a deer in headlights. I mean, who doesn’t love a good drum circle, right? But I gotta work! So, I’m back at my desk, trying to focus. But then, BOOM! My radio crackles to life. “We got a situation on the Han River!” My heart drops. I grab the mic, and my hands are shaking. “What’s goin’ on?” Turns out, some dude decided to take his boat out for a joyride. In the middle of a storm. Genius, right? I’m relaying info like a madman. “Yo, we need backup at the river!” I’m sweating bullets. Meanwhile, I can hear the parade still going on outside. Like, can’t a guy catch a break? Finally, we get a team out there. I’m glued to the radio, praying for this guy’s safety. I mean, it’s the Han River, not a kiddie pool! After what feels like an eternity, they pull him out. He’s soaked but alive. I’m like, “Dude, you’re lucky!” Then, just when I think it’s over, I get a call about a stray dog on Gyeongju Street. Seriously? A dog? I’m like, “Can’t someone else handle this?” But nope, it’s my job. So, I head out, and there’s this little pup, shivering and scared. My heart melts. I scoop him up, and he’s all wagging his tail. I’m like, “You’re coming with me, buddy.” I take him to the local shelter. The lady there is super nice. She’s like, “You’re a hero!” I’m blushing, but inside I’m like, “Nah, just doing my job.” But hey, I’ll take the compliment. After all that chaos, I finally get a break. I hit up the waterfront at the Gunsan Port. The sunset is insane. I’m sittin’ there, just soaking it all in. The colors are wild—pink, orange, you name it. I think about how lucky I am to live in this crazy city. But then, my phone buzzes. It’s my buddy, asking if I wanna hit up a bar later. I’m like, “Heck yeah!” I need a drink after today. So, I head home, shower, and throw on my best “I survived Gunsan” shirt. At the bar, I’m sharing stories with my friends. They’re cracking up about the parade and the dog. I’m just glad I made it through the day. I raise my glass, and we toast to Gunsan. “Here’s to wild days and crazy nights!” And that’s a wrap on my day. Just another rollercoaster in Gunsan. Can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings!
