Man, what a day! I swear, Sintansin (kr) is a wild ride. I woke up thinking it’d be just another boring Sunday, but boy, was I wrong. First off, I hit up the local café on Gyeongin-ro. You know, the one with the weirdly named pastries? I ordered a “Sweet Surprise” and got a muffin that looked like it had seen better days. Like, c’mon, how hard is it to bake? But hey, I’m a clergyman, gotta keep the peace, right? So, I’m munching on this sad muffin when I hear this commotion outside. Turns out, there’s a street performer on Jeongja-dong, juggling flaming torches. I mean, who does that? I’m thinking, “Dude, you’re gonna set the whole street on fire!” But the crowd loved it. They were cheering like he was some kind of hero. I was half tempted to join in, but then I remembered my collar. Can’t be seen as a fire hazard, ya know? After that, I decided to take a stroll down to the Sintansin Market. It’s always buzzing with life. I love the vibe there. But today? Ugh. I got stuck behind this lady who was moving slower than molasses. I’m like, “C’mon, lady! I got places to be!” But she was too busy haggling over some fish. I mean, it’s fish! Just buy it and move on! Finally, I broke free and made it to the park by the Han River. It’s my go-to spot for some peace. But guess what? There was a dog park event happening. Dogs everywhere! I’m talking about a full-on canine carnival. I saw this golden retriever trying to steal a hot dog from a kid. Hilarious! But then the kid started crying. I felt bad, but also kinda laughed. Then, outta nowhere, I bumped into Mrs. Kim from the church. She’s always got some drama going on. Today, she was ranting about her cat, Mr. Whiskers, who apparently has a “thing” for her neighbor’s potted plants. I mean, who knew cats could have such sophisticated tastes? I tried to console her, but all I could think was, “Lady, it’s a cat. Chill.” After that, I headed back to the church on Seongdong-ro. I had a service to prepare for. But as I walked in, I noticed the lights were flickering. Great. Just what I needed. I’m trying to get my sermon together, and the lights are playing hide and seek. I’m like, “God, really? You couldn’t give me a break today?” Finally, the service started. And wouldn’t you know it, half the congregation was late. I mean, c’mon, people! It’s not like I’m giving out free donuts! But when they finally settled in, I felt this wave of calm wash over me. It’s like, despite the chaos, this is where I belong. After the service, I grabbed a quick bite at a food stall on Dongdaemun Street. Best tteokbokki ever! Spicy, chewy, and just the right amount of mess. I was in heaven. But then, I spilled some on my shirt. Classic me, right? As the sun set over Sintansin, I realized how much I love this city. It’s chaotic, it’s loud, but it’s home. I wouldn’t trade it for anything. Even with the crazy days, the weird muffins, and the flaming jugglers. Sintansin (kr), you’ve got my heart.
