Wow, what a day! Seriously, Aalten, you’ve got me all kinds of twisted. So, I wake up, right? Sun’s shining, birds chirping, and I’m like, “Today’s gonna be chill.” Spoiler alert: it was NOT chill. First off, I’m heading down the Lichtenvoordeweg, and I trip over my own feet. Classic me. I’m like, “Great start, genius.” But whatever, I brush it off. Aalten’s got this vibe, ya know? Small town, friendly peeps. I love it here. So, I get to the community center on De Witte Molen. I’m there to interpret for this workshop. It’s all about mental health, super important stuff. But man, the energy in the room? Intense. People are sharing their stories, and I’m trying to keep up. My hands are flying everywhere. I’m sweating like a sinner in church. Then, outta nowhere, this guy starts crying. Like, full-on sobbing. I’m standing there, hands moving, but my heart’s breaking. I mean, I’m an interpreter, not a therapist! But I can’t just stand there, right? So, I’m signing “It’s okay” and “You’re not alone.” I’m feeling all the feels. After the workshop, I’m walking down the Kerkstraat, still buzzing from the emotions. I stop by this little café, De Koffiepot. Best coffee in Aalten, no cap. I grab a cappuccino, and the barista, this sweet lady, gives me a free cookie. I’m like, “Yasss!” It’s the little things, ya know? But then, I get a call. It’s my next gig. A last-minute thing at the school on De Veldweg. I’m like, “Ugh, can’t a girl catch a break?” But I can’t say no. So, I chug my coffee and dash over. When I get there, it’s chaos. Kids everywhere, running wild. I’m thinking, “What did I sign up for?” But then, I see this kid, Timmy. He’s deaf and super shy. I start signing to him, and his face lights up. Like, pure joy. That made my day! But then, the principal walks in. She’s all serious, and I’m like, “Oh boy, here we go.” She starts talking about some new rules. I’m trying to interpret, but she’s talking a mile a minute. I’m like, “Slow down, lady!” My hands are cramping up. Finally, I get through it. Kids are laughing, and I’m feeling like a rockstar. But then, I step outside, and it’s pouring rain. Like, seriously? Aalten, you’re killing me! I’m soaked in seconds. I run to my car, and guess what? I locked my keys inside. Classic move, right? I’m standing there, drenched, and I just start laughing. Like, what else can you do? So, I call a locksmith. While I’m waiting, I’m just people-watching. Aalten’s got some characters, lemme tell ya. This old dude on a bike, he’s got a parrot on his shoulder. I’m like, “Is this real life?” Finally, the locksmith shows up. He’s super chill, and we start chatting. Turns out, he’s from Aalten too. We bond over the weirdness of the day. He gets my car open, and I’m like, “Thank you, thank you!” By the time I get home, I’m exhausted. But I can’t help but smile. Aalten, you’re a wild ride. Full of surprises, laughter, and a bit of chaos. I wouldn’t trade it for anything. So, yeah, that was my day. Just another day in Aalten, right? Can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings!
