Man, what a day! Seriously, I can’t even. So, I wake up in Alphen-aan-den-Rijn, right? The sun’s shining, birds are chirping, and I’m like, “Today’s gonna be chill.” Spoiler alert: it was NOT chill. First off, I’m a document specialist, which sounds fancy but really just means I deal with papers all day. Boring, I know. But today? Oh boy. I’m at the office on Raadhuisstraat, and my boss, Mr. Grumpy Pants, decides to throw a surprise audit. Like, who does that? I’m just trying to sip my coffee from the local café, De Koffieboon, and boom! Papers everywhere. I’m sweating bullets, man. So, I’m scrambling through files, and I swear, I can’t find the one document I need. It’s like it vanished into thin air. I’m digging through the archives on the second floor of the office, and I’m getting angrier by the second. I mean, c’mon! How hard can it be to keep track of a single paper? I’m about to lose it. Then, outta nowhere, my buddy Jeroen pops in. He’s like, “Dude, chill! Let’s grab a snack at the Markt.” I’m like, “Are you kidding? I can’t! I’m drowning in paperwork!” But he drags me out anyway. We hit up this food truck selling the best frikandel ever. I mean, it’s like a party in my mouth. I’m munching away, and suddenly, I’m happy again. But then, I get a text. It’s from my boss. “Where’s that document?” Ugh! I almost choke on my frikandel. I’m like, “Dude, I’m on it!” But inside, I’m panicking. I can’t let him down. So, I rush back to the office, and guess what? The document is right there on my desk. I’m like, “Are you serious?!” I could’ve saved myself a heart attack. I grab it, and just as I’m about to hand it to Mr. Grumpy Pants, the fire alarm goes off. Like, really? In the middle of my meltdown? Everyone’s rushing out, and I’m just standing there, holding this paper like it’s the Holy Grail. I finally make it outside, and we’re all standing on the street, near the Rijn. I’m looking around, and it’s actually kinda nice. The river’s glistening, and I see families chilling by the water. Kids are playing, and I’m like, “Why can’t I just be one of them?” After a while, the fire brigade shows up. Turns out, it was just a drill. A DRILL! I’m about to lose my mind. I mean, who does drills in the middle of a workday? I’m just trying to survive here! Finally, we get back inside, and I hand over the document. Mr. Grumpy Pants actually smiles. I’m like, “Wait, did I just see that right?” Maybe today’s not a total loss after all. Later, I decide to take a stroll down the Hoofdstraat. It’s a beautiful evening, and I’m feeling a bit better. I stop by the park, and there’s this cute dog running around. I’m not even a dog person, but this little guy just makes my heart melt. I’m laughing, and for a moment, I forget about the chaos of the day. As I head home, I can’t help but think about how wild today was. From the stress of work to the fire drill and that adorable dog, it was a rollercoaster. Alphen-aan-den-Rijn, you’ve got my heart racing! I’m exhausted but grateful. Tomorrow’s a new day, and who knows what’ll happen next? But for now, I’m just gonna crash on my couch and binge-watch some Netflix. Peace out, Alphen! You crazy city, you.
