Man, what a day! I swear, Bergschenhoek is wild. I mean, who knew this little town could throw so many curveballs? I’m a mountain guide, right? But today, I was more like a city explorer. So, I woke up, ready to hit the trails. But nah, the weather was like, “Not today, buddy.” Rain, rain, and more rain. I was bummed. I mean, I love the mountains, but sometimes you gotta roll with the punches. So, I decided to check out the local scene instead. First stop? The Marktstraat. It’s this cute little street with shops and cafes. I thought, “Hey, let’s grab a coffee.” I walk into this place called De Koffieboon. The smell? Oh man, it was heavenly. I ordered a cappuccino, and the barista was super chill. We started chatting about the weather, and I’m like, “Dude, I’m supposed to be hiking, not sipping coffee!” Then, outta nowhere, this guy bursts in. He’s soaked, like he just swam here or something. Turns out, he was trying to cycle through the rain. I couldn’t help but laugh. I mean, who cycles in this weather? He looked like a drowned rat. We ended up chatting, and he told me about the best spots in Bergschenhoek. Apparently, there’s a hidden park near the Hoekseweg. I made a mental note. After my coffee, I decided to check out that park. I mean, why not? I’m already soaked, might as well embrace it. I walked down the Hoekseweg, and let me tell ya, it’s a pretty street. Trees everywhere, and the houses? Super cute. I felt like I was in a postcard or something. But then, I got lost. Like, seriously lost. I took a wrong turn on the Laan van Berkel, and suddenly I’m in this residential area. I’m looking around, thinking, “Where the heck am I?” I could’ve sworn I saw a sign for the park, but nope. Just houses. I was getting frustrated. I mean, I’m a mountain guide! I should know my way around! But then, I spotted this little kid playing in the rain. He was jumping in puddles, having the time of his life. I couldn’t help but smile. It reminded me to chill out. So, I joined him for a sec. We splashed around like a couple of goofballs. Finally, I found the park. It’s called Park de Rhoon. And wow, it was worth the detour. The trees were massive, and there was this little pond with ducks. I sat on a bench, just soaking it all in. I felt happy, like a kid again. But then, my phone buzzed. It was my buddy, asking if I wanted to join him for dinner. I was like, “Sure, why not?” So, I headed back to the Marktstraat. But guess what? I got lost again! This time, I ended up on the wrong side of the tracks—literally. I was near the train station, and I was like, “Great, just great.” Finally, I found my way back. We went to this place called De Zwarte Ruiter. The food? Amazing! I ordered a burger, and it was massive. I mean, I could’ve used it as a pillow. We laughed about my day, and I told him about the kid in the park. He said I should’ve taken a picture. I was like, “Nah, man, some moments are just for you.” By the end of the night, I was exhausted but happy. Bergschenhoek surprised me today. It’s not just a place for hiking; it’s got its own vibe. I learned to embrace the unexpected. And honestly? I wouldn’t trade that day for anything. So, yeah, that was my crazy day in Bergschenhoek. Who knew a little town could pack so much into one day? I’m still laughing about it. Can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings!
