Man, what a day! I’m a forester, right? So, I’m used to chillin’ in the woods, surrounded by trees and critters. But today? Oh boy, today was a whole different ball game. I found myself in Bilgaard, and lemme tell ya, it was a wild ride. First off, I roll into Bilgaard, and it’s like stepping into a whole new world. The streets are buzzing, people everywhere. I’m used to the quiet of the forest, not this chaos. I parked my truck on the side of the Van der Waalsstraat. Yeah, I know, fancy name for a street, right? But it’s just a regular ol’ road with potholes big enough to swallow a squirrel. So, I’m walking down the street, and I see this café called “De Groene Boom.” I mean, come on, how could I resist? I’m a forester, I love trees! I pop in for a coffee, and the barista? Total character. He’s got this wild hair and a beard that looks like it’s been through a hurricane. I order a cappuccino, and he’s like, “You want it with a sprinkle of tree bark?” I laugh, but he’s dead serious. I’m like, “Nah, man, just the coffee, please.” After my caffeine fix, I decide to explore. I wander over to the Bilgaardse Haven. The water’s glistening, and there are boats bobbing around. I’m thinking, “This is nice.” But then, outta nowhere, this seagull swoops down and steals my sandwich! I’m standing there, mouth agape, like, “Did that just happen?” I’m chasing this bird down the dock, flailing my arms like a madman. People are staring, and I’m like, “Yeah, just a forester chasing a seagull. No biggie.” Finally, I give up. I’m hungry, and I’m not about to let a bird ruin my day. I head over to the Markt, where there’s a market going on. Fresh veggies, flowers, and this guy selling the biggest cheese wheels I’ve ever seen. I mean, seriously, they were like mini cars! I grab a bratwurst from a food stall, and it’s glorious. I’m munching away, feeling good again. But then, I hear this commotion. A crowd’s gathered near the fountain on the Kerkstraat. I’m nosy, so I go check it out. Turns out, there’s a street performer doing some crazy juggling act. He’s tossing knives, and I’m like, “Dude, you’re gonna lose a finger!” But he’s nailing it, and the crowd’s loving it. I’m clapping, feeling all pumped up. Then, outta nowhere, it starts to rain. Like, really rain. I’m soaked in seconds. I dash for cover under this awning, and guess who’s there? The barista from earlier! He’s laughing, and I’m like, “Dude, you jinxed me with that tree bark coffee!” We end up chatting, and he tells me about the best spots in Bilgaard. Apparently, there’s a hidden park with the biggest oak tree. I’m all in. After the rain stops, I make my way to that park. It’s called “Het Groene Hart.” And wow, it’s beautiful. The oak tree is massive, like something outta a fairy tale. I sit under it, just chillin’, and I can’t help but feel grateful. This city, with all its craziness, has a charm. As the sun sets, I head back to my truck. I’m exhausted but happy. Bilgaard surprised me today. I came for a quick trip, but I’m leaving with stories. And maybe a new friend in that barista. Who knew a forester could have such a wild day in the city? So yeah, Bilgaard, you’ve got my heart. Just watch out for those seagulls!
