Man, what a day! Seriously, I’m still reeling from it. So, I’m a librarian in Breukelen, right? Yeah, that little gem of a town in the Netherlands. You know, the one that’s like a cozy blanket on a chilly day? Anyway, I woke up thinking it’d be just another boring day at the library. Spoiler alert: it was anything but. First off, I’m running late. Classic me. I sprint down the Kerkweg, dodging cyclists like I’m in some sort of Olympic event. I mean, who knew Breukelen had so many bikes? I swear, I almost got taken out by a dude in spandex. Like, chill, man! It’s not a race! Finally, I get to the library, and it’s packed. I’m talking full-on chaos. Kids everywhere, parents trying to shush them, and I’m just standing there like, “What do I do?” I love my job, but some days, it’s like herding cats. And don’t even get me started on the noise. I mean, it’s a library, not a concert hall, right? So, I’m trying to help this kid find a book on dinosaurs. He’s super into it, and I’m like, “Yes! A fellow dino enthusiast!” But then, outta nowhere, this lady storms in. She’s fuming. Turns out, she’s mad because someone took her favorite book. Like, lady, it’s a library! Books are meant to be shared! But she’s not having it. I’m trying to calm her down, but she’s like a volcano ready to erupt. Then, just when I think it can’t get crazier, the fire alarm goes off. I’m like, “Seriously? In Breukelen?!” Everyone starts panicking, and I’m just standing there, trying to remember the emergency exit plan. Spoiler: I don’t. So, I grab the nearest kid and yell, “Follow me!” We bolt out the door onto the Breukelerstraat. Outside, it’s a beautiful day. The sun’s shining, and I’m thinking, “Why are we outside?!” But then I see the fire truck zooming down the street. I mean, how cool is that? The whole town’s out, and we’re all just standing there, watching the show. It’s like a mini parade, and I’m low-key loving it. After the fire truck leaves (turns out it was a false alarm, phew), we head back inside. The lady is still grumpy, but I manage to distract her with a book about the history of Breukelen. I mean, who wouldn’t want to read about their own town? It’s got some cool stuff, like how it was named after Brooklyn. Mind blown, right? By the end of the day, I’m exhausted. I’m talking about needing a nap like a toddler. But then, as I’m closing up, I see that same kid from earlier. He’s holding a dino book and grinning like he just won the lottery. And you know what? That made it all worth it. So, yeah, Breukelen, you crazy little town. You’ve got your quirks, your surprises, and your wild days. But at the end of the day, it’s home. And I wouldn’t trade it for anything. Even if it means dodging spandex-clad cyclists and dealing with grumpy patrons. Here’s to more wild days in Breukelen!
