Man, what a day! Seriously, Deventer really threw me for a loop today. I woke up thinking it’d be just another chill day, ya know? But nah, the universe had other plans. So, I’m strolling down the Brink, right? It’s this super cute square with those old buildings. I mean, like, you can practically feel the history oozing outta the bricks. I’m just vibin’, sipping my coffee from that little café, Deventer’s best-kept secret, I swear. Then BAM! A pigeon poops on my shoulder. Like, really? I’m just tryna enjoy my morning! Anyway, I wipe it off, trying to keep my cool. I head over to the Walstraat, where all the shops are. I’m in the mood to buy some new gear for my science experiments. I mean, who doesn’t love a good lab coat, right? But guess what? The store’s closed! Like, what kind of shop closes at 10 AM? Ugh! I’m fuming, but then I spot this street performer on the corner of the Keizerstraat. He’s playing the accordion, and honestly, he’s kinda killing it. I can’t help but smile. I toss him a couple of euros. He gives me this huge grin, and for a sec, all my anger just melts away. But then, I’m walking past the St. Lebuïnus Church, and I see this group of tourists. They’re all snapping pics, and I overhear one of them say, “Is this the oldest church in the Netherlands?” I’m like, “Dude, it’s not even close!” I mean, come on! Deventer’s got history, but let’s not exaggerate, right? So, I keep wandering, and I hit the river IJssel. The view is stunning, like postcard material. I’m standing there, just soaking it all in, when I see this kid trying to fish. He’s got this tiny rod, and he’s all serious about it. I’m thinking, “Man, you’re not gonna catch anything with that!” But then, he pulls up this little fish, and I’m like, “Whoa! You go, kid!” Then, outta nowhere, it starts to rain. Like, heavy rain. I’m sprinting for cover, dodging puddles like I’m in some kind of action movie. I duck into this random pub on the Smedenstraat. It’s cozy, and the smell of fries hits me. I order a portion, and while I’m waiting, I chat with the bartender. He’s a cool dude, tells me about the local beer. I’m like, “Yeah, I’ll take one!” So, I’m munching on fries, and I overhear this couple arguing. They’re going at it, and I’m just sitting there, trying not to laugh. I mean, come on, you’re in Deventer! Chill out! But then, the guy storms out, and the girl starts crying. I feel bad, but also kinda awkward. So, I just focus on my fries. After the rain stops, I head back out. The streets are all shiny, and the air smells fresh. I walk past the old city walls, and I can’t help but think about how many stories those walls could tell. It’s wild! Finally, I make my way to the Deventer Book Market. It’s this massive thing, and I’m like a kid in a candy store. Books everywhere! I’m grabbing titles left and right. I find this old science book that’s like, ancient. I’m so stoked! But then, I see this guy trying to haggle over a book. He’s being super rude to the seller. I’m like, “Dude, chill! It’s just a book!” But he doesn’t listen. I’m getting all worked up again. By the time I head home, I’m exhausted but happy. Deventer, you crazy city! You’ve got me feeling all the feels today. I can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings.
