Man, what a day! I’m tellin’ ya, being an arborist in Diemen is like a rollercoaster ride. So, I wake up, right? Sun’s shining, birds are chirping, and I’m like, “Today’s gonna be chill.” Spoiler alert: it was NOT chill. First stop, the park on de Omloop. I’m there to check on this massive oak. I mean, this tree is a beast! But as I’m climbing up, I spot a bunch of kids playing soccer. They’re kickin’ the ball around like they’re in the World Cup or somethin’. One kid, I swear, he boots it right into my tree! Like, dude, really? I’m up there, trying to do my job, and now I’m dodging soccer balls. I yell down, “Hey! Watch it!” They just laugh. Kids, man. So, I finish up with the oak, and I’m feelin’ pretty good. I head over to the Diemerpark. It’s a nice spot, ya know? Lots of green, people chillin’, dogs runnin’ around. But then, I see this couple arguing. Like, full-on shouting match. I’m just tryin’ to enjoy my coffee, and they’re throwin’ shade like it’s an Olympic sport. I’m thinkin’, “C’mon, guys, take it to the café or somethin’.” After that, I’m off to the other side of town, near de Bijlmerdreef. I got a call about a tree that’s leaning way too much. I get there, and it’s a total mess. The tree’s practically hugging a house. I’m like, “This is gonna be fun.” I start assessing it, and outta nowhere, this old dude comes up to me. He’s like, “You know, that tree used to be my best friend.” I’m like, “What? Your best friend?” He goes on about how he used to climb it as a kid. I’m just standing there, trying not to laugh. Then, I get a call from my boss. He’s all stressed, talkin’ about some big project in the Diemen-Zuid area. Apparently, they wanna plant a whole bunch of trees for some new development. I’m like, “Great, more work!” But then I think, “Hey, more trees means more shade, right?” So, I’m kinda pumped. But then, I hit a snag. I’m driving down de Slingerweg, and boom! Traffic jam. Like, what the heck? Turns out, there’s a parade or somethin’. I’m stuck behind this float with a giant chicken on it. I’m just sittin’ there, laughin’ my ass off. Who even thought of a giant chicken? Finally, I get to the site. It’s a mess. I’m talkin’ branches everywhere, and the ground’s all muddy. I’m tryin’ to keep my cool, but I’m gettin’ frustrated. I mean, come on! I just wanna plant some trees, not wrestle with mud. As I’m workin’, I see this little girl watching me. She’s got this huge smile, and she’s holding a tiny sapling. She says, “Are you gonna make it grow big?” I’m like, “Yeah, kid! Just like you!” It hits me, ya know? This is why I do what I do. By the end of the day, I’m exhausted. I head back home, and I can’t help but think about all the craziness. Diemen’s wild, man. One minute you’re climbing trees, the next you’re dodging soccer balls and giant chickens. So, yeah, that was my day. Full of ups and downs, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything. Diemen, you crazy, but I love ya!
