Man, what a day! Seriously, I’m still reeling from it. So, I wake up in my cozy little flat on the corner of de Bovenste Molen. You know, the one with the view of the old church? Yeah, that one. I’m a financial advisor, right? But today? Today was anything but normal. First off, I’m running late. Like, really late. I grab a quick coffee from that cute little café on de Lindt. You know the one? The barista, Lisa, always gives me a hard time about my “fancy” orders. I mean, c’mon, I just like my cappuccino with a sprinkle of cinnamon! Is that too much to ask? Anyway, I spill half of it on my shirt. Great start, right? So, I’m hustling down the streets of Doesburg, dodging cyclists like I’m in some kind of video game. Seriously, these bikers are relentless! I almost get taken out by a dude on a bright yellow bike on de Waag. I swear, if I had a euro for every near-miss, I’d be rich enough to retire. Finally, I get to my first meeting at the old town hall. It’s a beautiful building, all brick and history. But my client? Ugh. He’s late. Like, super late. I’m sitting there, tapping my foot, thinking about how I could be enjoying a nice walk by the IJssel instead. The river is so peaceful, and here I am, stuck in a stuffy room. When he finally shows up, he’s all flustered. Turns out he got lost. In Doesburg! I mean, it’s not that big! I try to keep my cool, but inside, I’m like, “Dude, just use Google Maps!” We finally get down to business, and he’s all over the place with his finances. I’m trying to help him, but he keeps bringing up his cat’s vet bills. Like, bro, I get it, Fluffy needs care, but we gotta focus here! After that, I’m feeling a bit drained. I decide to take a stroll down the Markt. It’s bustling! There’s a market today, and the smell of fresh stroopwafels is wafting through the air. I can’t resist. I grab one, and it’s like heaven in my mouth. Seriously, if you haven’t had one, you’re missing out. But then, outta nowhere, it starts to rain. I mean, come on! I just got my stroopwafel! I duck into a shop on de Kloosterstraat, and it’s this quirky little place selling all sorts of random stuff. I find a rubber duck dressed as a pirate. I buy it. Why? I dunno, it just felt right. So, I’m walking back to my office, feeling a bit better, when I bump into an old friend from high school. We start chatting, and he tells me he’s opening a new restaurant on de Bovenste Molen. I’m like, “Dude, that’s awesome!” But then he mentions he’s serving “fusion cuisine.” I roll my eyes. I mean, can we just stick to traditional Dutch food? Finally, I get back to my office, and I’m exhausted. I sit down, and my phone buzzes. It’s my boss. He wants to meet. Great. Just what I need. I’m thinking, “What now?” Turns out, he wants to discuss a new project. Something about investing in local businesses. I’m all for it, but can we not do this at 5 PM? By the end of the day, I’m just done. I head home, and as I walk along the river, I can’t help but smile. Doesburg is beautiful, even with all the chaos. The sunset over the IJssel is stunning. I take a deep breath and think, “Tomorrow’s gotta be better.” And you know what? It probably will be. Because that’s life in Doesburg, right? Full of surprises, a bit of chaos, and a whole lot of charm.
