Man, what a day! Seriously, Drachten, you’ve got me all kinds of twisted. So, I wake up, right? Sun’s shining, birds chirping, and I’m like, “Today’s gonna be chill.” Spoiler alert: it was NOT chill. First off, I’m cruising down the Hoofdstraat, thinking about my first client. This dude, let’s call him “Mark,” is a real piece of work. He’s been struggling with anxiety, and I’m trying to help him out. But today? Today he shows up late. Like, really late. I’m sitting there, sipping my coffee from the local café, De Koffiebar, and I’m getting more and more annoyed. I mean, come on, man! Time is money, right? Finally, he rolls in, all flustered. I’m like, “Dude, what happened?” He goes on about traffic on the N381. I’m thinking, “Really? Traffic? In Drachten?” But whatever, we dive into it. He starts talking about his job, and I’m trying to keep it together. I mean, I’m a counselor, not a therapist for traffic woes. After that, I head over to the Drachtsterweg. I need to clear my head. I’m walking, and I see this cute little park, the De Molen. It’s got this windmill, and I’m like, “Aww, how Dutch!” I sit down on a bench, and for a sec, I’m just vibing. But then, outta nowhere, a kid runs by, and I swear he almost knocks my coffee over. I’m like, “Chill, mini tornado!” Then, I get a text from my buddy, “Let’s hit up the Markt!” I’m like, “Sure, why not?” So I head over there, and it’s packed. I mean, Drachten’s not huge, but today it feels like the whole town’s out. I grab some fries from the stand—best fries in town, no cap. But then, I see this guy I know, let’s call him “Jeroen.” He’s always got some wild story. He starts telling me about this time he got lost in the woods near the De Leijen. I’m laughing so hard, I almost choke on my fries. Like, who gets lost in Drachten? It’s not that big! But then he gets serious, and I’m like, “Oh boy, here we go.” He starts talking about his breakup, and I’m like, “Dude, I’m not your counselor!” But I listen anyway. After that, I’m feeling all kinds of emotions. Happy, sad, confused. I decide to take a stroll down the Noorderdwarsstraat. It’s quiet there, and I need that. I’m thinking about life, love, and all that jazz. But then, I see this old lady struggling with her groceries. I rush over, and I’m like, “Hey, let me help you!” She’s super grateful, and I’m feeling like a hero for a hot second. But then, I trip over a curb. Classic me, right? I’m sprawled out on the sidewalk, and she’s laughing. I’m like, “Great, now I’m the one who needs help!” We both crack up, and it’s a nice moment. Finally, I head back to my office on the Zuiderdwarsstraat. I’m exhausted. I plop down in my chair, and I’m like, “What a day!” I think about all the people I met, the stories I heard. Drachten, you’re a wild ride. So yeah, that was my day. Full of ups and downs, laughs and facepalms. I love this town, even when it drives me nuts. Can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings!
