Man, what a day! Seriously, I’m still reeling from it. So, I’m a Nose, right? Yeah, that’s a thing. I sniff out scents for a living. Sounds weird? It is. But today in Emmer-Compascuum? Wild. First off, I woke up late. Like, super late. My alarm? Totally ignored it. I bolted outta bed, threw on whatever I could find. I mean, who needs matching socks anyway? Not me! I rushed outta my flat on de Klinkerweg, and let me tell ya, the air was thick with... something. I dunno, maybe it was the bakery on the corner? Or the weird smell from the canal? Either way, I was already late for my first gig. I dashed down de Klinkerweg, dodging cyclists like I was in some kinda video game. Seriously, these folks are nuts! One almost took me out. I yelled, “Watch it, buddy!” but he just laughed. Like, dude, I’m not a pinball machine! Finally, I made it to the market on de Witte Paal. It’s always buzzing there. Fresh veggies, flowers, and the best stroopwafels. I could smell them from a mile away. But today? Ugh, the guy selling them was outta stock! I was like, “Nooo! Not today!” I mean, come on! How can you run out of stroopwafels? It’s a crime against humanity! So, I’m standing there, fuming, when I get a whiff of something else. It was this amazing floral scent. I follow it, and boom! I find this little flower shop on de Hoofdstraat. The owner, this sweet old lady, was arranging bouquets. I told her, “Lady, you’ve got a gift!” She smiled, and I swear, it lit up the whole street. I bought a bunch of tulips, because why not? They were bright and cheerful, just like me—well, when I’m not hangry. Then, I had to head to my next appointment. I was supposed to meet a client at the Emmer-Compascuum train station. But guess what? The trains were delayed. Classic! I mean, it’s like they know I’m in a hurry. I sat there, tapping my foot, trying to keep my cool. I was so close to losing it. I mean, how hard is it to run on time? While I was waiting, I overheard this couple arguing. They were going at it, and I couldn’t help but eavesdrop. The guy was like, “You never listen!” and the girl shot back, “Well, you never smell the roses!” I chuckled. I mean, I get it. But come on, I’m the Nose here! I smell everything! Finally, the train rolled in. I hopped on, and it was packed. I squeezed in next to this dude who smelled like he’d just run a marathon. I was like, “Dude, a little deodorant wouldn’t hurt!” But whatever, I survived. When I got off at the next stop, I was hit with this wave of nostalgia. The air smelled like my childhood. I walked past the old playground on de Veldweg. I used to play there all the time. I could almost hear the laughter of kids. It made me smile, but also a bit sad. Time flies, ya know? I finally met my client, and we went over some scents for a new perfume line. I was in my element! I mean, I can sniff out the good stuff like nobody’s business. We mixed some floral notes with a hint of citrus. It was magic! I was on a high, feeling like a rockstar. But then, outta nowhere, my phone buzzed. It was my buddy, asking if I wanted to hit up the pub later. I was like, “Heck yeah!” I mean, after this crazy day, I needed a drink. So, I wrapped up my meeting and headed to the pub on de Molenweg. It was packed, but I squeezed in. I ordered a beer and plopped down at a table. My friends were already there, laughing and joking. I joined in, and for a moment, everything felt right. But then, I spilled my drink all over the table. Classic me! Everyone laughed, and I just rolled my eyes. “Guess I’m just adding some flavor!” I joked. As the night went on, we shared stories, and I realized how much I love this city. Emmer-Compascuum, with its quirky streets and vibrant people, is home. Sure, it’s got its ups and downs, but it’s mine. So yeah, that was my day. A rollercoaster of scents, emotions
