Man, what a day! Seriously, I’m still reeling from it. So, I wake up in Enkhuizen, right? This cute lil’ town in the Netherlands, by the IJsselmeer. I mean, it’s picturesque, but today? Ugh. First off, I’m an economist, but today felt like I was living in a sitcom. I grab my coffee at the local café on the Westerstraat. You know, the one with the funky barista who thinks he’s a stand-up comic? Yeah, that guy. He spills my coffee all over the counter. I’m like, “Dude, I need that caffeine!” But he just laughs it off. I mean, come on! So, I’m walking down the street, trying to shake off the coffee disaster. I pass by the Drommedaris, that old gate. It’s like, “Hey, I’m historic and you’re just a stressed economist.” Thanks, Drommedaris, real helpful. Then, I hit the harbor. The boats are bobbing, and I’m thinking, “This is nice.” But then I see this seagull. And not just any seagull. This dude is like the king of the harbor. He swoops down and snatches a sandwich right outta some tourist’s hand! I’m cracking up, but the tourist? Not so much. I decide to take a stroll along the Vissershaven. The view is stunning, but my mind is racing with economic theories. I’m like, “What’s the elasticity of demand for fish here?” Totally nerding out. But then, I trip over a cobblestone. Classic me, right? I’m sprawled out, and this old lady walks by. She just shakes her head and mutters something in Dutch. I’m pretty sure it was not a compliment. After that, I’m feeling a bit defeated. I head to the Zuiderzee Museum. I think, “Maybe some culture will help.” But nope! It’s packed with kids. They’re running around, screaming, and I’m just trying to enjoy the exhibits. I mean, can’t a guy look at some old fishing gear in peace? Then, I overhear this kid talking about the economy. I’m like, “Wait, what?” He’s explaining supply and demand to his mom. I’m impressed! But then he says, “And that’s why we need more candy!” I can’t even. Finally, I’m like, “I need a break.” I find a bench near the old harbor. I sit down, take a deep breath, and just watch the world go by. The boats, the people, the seagulls. It’s kinda beautiful, you know? But then, outta nowhere, it starts to rain. Of course! I’m in Enkhuizen, and it’s like the weather gods are having a laugh. I dash for cover under a café awning. I’m soaked, but at least I’m not in the middle of the street looking like a drowned rat. As I’m waiting for the rain to chill, I see a couple walking by, holding hands. They look so happy. I’m like, “Aww, love in Enkhuizen.” But then I remember my last relationship. Oof. Finally, the rain stops, and I’m feeling a bit better. I head back to my car, parked on the Langestraat. I’m thinking, “What a day!” I mean, I’ve laughed, I’ve tripped, I’ve been rained on. But hey, that’s life, right? So, I drive home, and I can’t help but smile. Enkhuizen, you crazy little town, you’ve got my heart. Even if you made me look like a fool today. Can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings!
