Man, what a day in Epe! Seriously, I’m still reeling from it. Woke up thinking it’d be just another boring day, you know? But nah, Epe had other plans for me. So, I’m a Mourner, right? Sounds heavy, I know. But today? Today was a rollercoaster. First off, I hit up the Markt. It’s like the heart of Epe, all those cute little shops and cafes. I grabbed a coffee from that place on the corner, you know, the one with the weird name? “De Koffieboon” or something. Tasted like heaven, but I spilled half of it on my shirt. Classic me, right? Then, I had to head over to the Kerkstraat. Man, the vibe there was just... off. Like, people were walking around with this weird look on their faces. I thought maybe it was just me, but nah, something was in the air. I mean, it’s Epe, not a horror movie! So, I’m walking, minding my own business, when I see this old dude, right? He’s just standing there, staring at a tree. A TREE! I’m like, “Dude, you good?” He looks at me and says, “This tree has seen more than you’ll ever know.” I’m thinking, “Bro, it’s a tree.” But hey, who am I to judge? Maybe it’s a wise tree or something. Anyway, I get to the cemetery. Yeah, I know, not the happiest place, but it’s my job. I’m there to mourn, to help people through their grief. But today? Today was different. I met this family, and they were just... ugh, so emotional. Like, I felt their pain, you know? It hit me hard. I mean, I’m used to it, but this was next level. Then, outta nowhere, this kid runs up to me. He’s like, “Are you a ghost?” I’m like, “Nah, just a Mourner.” He looks at me, all wide-eyed, and says, “Cool! Can you haunt my school?” I couldn’t help but laugh. Kids, man. They say the darndest things. After that, I needed a break. So, I strolled down the Laan van de Kruideniers. It’s a nice street, you know? Trees lining the road, little houses with gardens. But then I see this guy trying to parallel park. And let me tell you, it was a disaster. He’s turning the wheel like he’s in a video game, and I’m just standing there, popcorn in hand, watching the show. Finally, he gives up and just leaves the car in the middle of the street. Classic Epe moment. By the time I got back to the cemetery, the family was gone. I felt a bit empty, like, did I even help? But then I saw a little girl placing flowers on a grave. She looked so peaceful, and it hit me. Maybe it’s not about fixing everything. Sometimes, just being there is enough. As the sun started to set, I walked back through the town. The streets were quieter now, and I could hear the sound of laughter from a nearby pub. I thought about joining, but nah, I needed to process the day. Epe had thrown me a curveball, and I was still trying to catch my breath. So yeah, that was my day. Full of surprises, laughter, and a bit of sadness. Epe, you wild! Can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings.
