Man, what a day! I swear, Hillegom really knows how to throw a curveball. I woke up thinking it’d be just another chill day, you know? But nah, life had other plans. So, I’m a Mourner, right? Sounds heavy, but it’s not all doom and gloom. I mean, I get to help people through their tough times. But today? Today was a rollercoaster. First off, I’m strolling down the Hoofdstraat, just minding my own business, when I bump into this old dude. He’s like, “Hey, you’re that Mourner, right?” I’m like, “Yeah, that’s me.” He starts telling me about his cat, Mr. Whiskers, who passed away. I mean, c’mon, a cat? I’m here for the big stuff, not furry little friends! But hey, I get it. Pets are family too. Then, I’m walking past the flower shop on the corner of de Zwarteweg. The smell of tulips hits me like a freight train. Hillegom is famous for its flowers, right? I can’t help but smile. But then I see this kid, probably 10 or something, crying over a wilted bouquet. I’m like, “Dude, it’s just flowers!” But then I remember my own childhood. I had a pet goldfish named Bubbles. When he went belly up, I was a wreck. So, I get it. After that, I head to the park, you know, the one by the water? It’s usually peaceful, but today? Nah. There’s this group of teenagers blasting music. Like, come on! I’m trying to mourn here! But then, they start singing along, and it’s so bad it’s kinda funny. I can’t help but laugh. But then, outta nowhere, I get a call. It’s my buddy, Jan. He’s like, “Dude, you won’t believe this!” I’m thinking, “What now?” Turns out, he’s at the old church on de Laan. Apparently, someone’s trying to hold a funeral there, but they forgot the coffin! I’m like, “How do you forget the coffin?!” I mean, that’s like forgetting the cake at a birthday party! So, I rush over, and sure enough, there’s a crowd gathered, looking confused. I’m trying to keep a straight face, but inside, I’m dying. I mean, who does that? But then, I see the family. They’re all dressed up, looking like they just stepped out of a fashion magazine. And I’m thinking, “This is gonna be awkward.” Finally, they get the coffin delivered. It’s all dramatic, like a scene from a movie. But then, the wind picks up, and the flowers from the arrangements start blowing everywhere! I’m dodging petals like I’m in some weird flower fight. It’s chaos! After all that, I’m just exhausted. I head to my favorite café on de Molenweg. I need a coffee, like, yesterday. I sit down, and the barista, she’s super sweet. She asks how my day’s been. I’m like, “You wouldn’t believe it if I told you.” I finally sit down with my coffee, and I just think about how wild life is. One minute you’re helping someone through grief, and the next, you’re in a flower fight at a forgotten funeral. Hillegom, man. It’s a trip. As I sip my coffee, I can’t help but smile. Yeah, it was a crazy day, but it’s these moments that make life interesting. I mean, who needs a boring day, right? Bring on the chaos!
