Man, what a day! I’m tellin’ ya, being a shoemaker in Hoogland is like riding a rollercoaster blindfolded. So, I wake up, right? Sun’s shining, birds are chirping, and I’m thinkin’, “Today’s gonna be chill.” Ha! Spoiler alert: it was NOT chill. First off, I step outta my little workshop on de Hoofdstraat, and boom! I trip over a freakin’ cobblestone. Like, who even put these here? I swear they’re out to get me. Anyway, I’m limping along, cursing the stones, when I see this old lady, Mrs. van Dijk, struggling with her shopping bags. I’m like, “Yo, let me help ya!” She’s all grateful and stuff, but then she starts talking about her cat, Momo. I’m like, “Cool, but I gotta get to work.” Finally, I make it to my shop, right? It’s cozy, smells like leather and glue. I’m ready to tackle some shoes. But then, my buddy Jan pops in. He’s got this wild idea about starting a shoe fashion line. I’m like, “Dude, we’re in Hoogland, not Paris!” But he’s all hyped, and I can’t help but get a bit excited too. So, we’re brainstorming, and then the door swings open. It’s this kid, Timmy, with a pair of busted sneakers. He’s like, “Can you fix these?” I look at ‘em, and I’m like, “Bro, these are beyond saving.” But I can’t crush his dreams, so I’m like, “Sure, I’ll work my magic.” While I’m at it, I hear this commotion outside. I peek out, and there’s a parade! A freakin’ parade on de Zandweg! I mean, who knew Hoogland had parades? I’m half tempted to ditch work and join the fun. But then I remember the rent. Ugh. So, I’m back to fixing Timmy’s shoes, and I’m in the zone. Suddenly, my phone buzzes. It’s my sister, asking if I can babysit her kids. I’m like, “Not today, sis!” But she’s persistent. I can’t say no, so I agree. Great, now I gotta juggle work and babysitting. Then, outta nowhere, my old high school nemesis, Rick, walks in. He’s all smug, flaunting his fancy shoes. I’m like, “Dude, you still wear those?” He just laughs and says, “At least I can afford new ones.” Ugh, the nerve! I’m ready to throw a shoe at him, but I keep it cool. After that, I finally finish Timmy’s sneakers. He’s over the moon! I’m feelin’ all warm and fuzzy inside. But then, I look at the clock. I’m late for babysitting! I rush out, leaving Jan to deal with Rick. I sprint to my sister’s place on de Kerkweg. Kids are wild! They’re bouncing off the walls. I’m tryin’ to keep ‘em entertained, but they just wanna play video games. I’m like, “How about we make some shoes?” They look at me like I’m crazy. Kids these days, right? Finally, I get ‘em to settle down with some coloring. I’m drawing shoes, and they’re like, “Can we make them rainbow?” I’m like, “Sure, why not?” We end up with the most ridiculous shoe designs ever. I’m laughing so hard, I almost forget how tired I am. By the time I leave, it’s dark outside. I’m walking back home, and I can’t help but smile. Hoogland’s got its quirks, but it’s home. I love this place, even with its cobblestones and wild parades. So, yeah, that was my day. Full of chaos, laughter, and a bit of drama. Just another day in the life of a shoemaker in Hoogland. Can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings!
