Man, what a day! Seriously, I’m still reeling from it. So, I wake up in Huizen, right? The sun’s shining, birds are chirping, and I’m like, “Today’s gonna be chill.” Spoiler alert: it was NOT chill. First off, I’m a clergyman, so I’m used to the usual stuff. You know, Sunday services, chatting with folks, the occasional wedding. But today? Oh boy. I head out to the church on Kerkstraat, and it’s like the universe decided to throw a curveball. I’m walking down the street, and I see this old lady struggling with her groceries. I’m like, “Hey, let me help ya!” So I grab a couple of bags, and she starts telling me about her cat, Momo. Apparently, Momo’s been missing for a week. I’m thinking, “Great, now I’m a cat detective.” But I’m all in, so I promise to keep an eye out. Then, I’m on my way to the church, and I pass by the Huizermaatweg. There’s this guy, right? He’s trying to parallel park his car. And I mean, he’s really trying. Like, it’s a whole production. I’m standing there, watching him, and I can’t help but laugh. He’s got his head out the window, yelling at the steering wheel. Classic! Finally, I get to the church, and it’s packed. I’m thinking, “Wow, must be a special service.” Turns out, it’s just the annual bake sale. Everyone’s buzzing about the best apple pie in Huizen. I’m like, “Forget the sermon, let’s eat!” So, I dive into some pie, and it’s heavenly. I’m talking clouds and angels singing. But then, outta nowhere, the fire alarm goes off. I’m like, “Seriously? Right now?” Everyone’s scrambling, and I’m trying to keep it together. I’m yelling, “Stay calm! It’s probably just a burnt pie!” But no one’s listening. We all pile out onto the street, and I’m standing there in my clerical collar, looking like a lost sheep. While we’re outside, I spot a couple of kids playing on the playground near the Huizerweg. They’re having a blast, and I’m thinking, “Man, I miss being a kid.” But then, one of them trips and falls. I’m like, “Oh no!” But he just gets up, brushes it off, and keeps playing. Kids are tough, man. After the fire drill (which turned out to be a false alarm, thank goodness), I finally get to do my thing. I’m giving my sermon, and I’m trying to be all deep and meaningful. But honestly, I can’t stop thinking about that pie. I’m like, “What’s the point of life if you can’t enjoy a good slice?” Then, outta nowhere, this guy in the back starts snoring. I’m talking full-on, loud snores. I can’t help but crack up. I’m trying to keep it together, but it’s impossible. I’m like, “Dude, if you’re that tired, just go home!” After the service, I’m chatting with folks, and this one lady comes up to me. She’s all serious, and I’m thinking, “Uh oh, what did I say?” But she just wants to tell me about her garden. Apparently, she’s growing the biggest tomatoes in Huizen. I’m like, “That’s awesome! Can I get a slice?” Finally, I wrap up my day, and I’m walking home along the waterfront. The sun’s setting, and it’s beautiful. I’m thinking about all the craziness, and I can’t help but smile. Huizen is wild, man. It’s got its quirks, its characters, and its surprises. So yeah, that was my day. Full of ups and downs, laughter and chaos. Just another day in Huizen, I guess. Can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings!
