Man, what a day! I swear, I thought I was just gonna have a chill time fishing in Kollum, but nah, life had other plans. So, I wake up early, right? Like, way too early. The sun ain't even up yet, and I'm already dragging my butt outta bed. I grab my gear, hop on my bike, and pedal down the Hoofdstraat. It’s still dark, and the streetlights are flickering like they’re about to give up on life. I get to the water, and it’s all quiet. Just me and the sound of the waves. Perfect, right? But then, outta nowhere, this seagull swoops down and snatches my sandwich! Like, dude, that was my breakfast! I’m standing there, mouth agape, while this feathered thief flies off like it just won the lottery. I’m fuming, but whatever, I’m here to fish, not to feed the birds. So, I cast my line into the water near the Kollumerpomp. I’m feeling good, you know? The fish are biting, and I’m thinking, “Today’s gonna be a good day.” But then, I hear this loud honking. I look up, and it’s a bunch of geese. Like, a whole squad of them just waddling down the street like they own the place. I’m trying to focus, but these geese are just strutting around like they’re on a runway. I’m cracking up, but also kinda annoyed. Can’t a fisherman catch a break? After a while, I finally hook a decent-sized fish. I’m pumped! I’m like, “Yes! Finally!” But then, I see this kid on a bike zooming by. He’s got this crazy look in his eyes, and before I know it, he crashes right into my fishing spot! My line gets tangled, and I’m like, “Dude, what the heck?!” He just laughs and rides off. I’m standing there, shaking my head, thinking, “Only in Kollum, man.” So, I decide to take a break and head over to the local café on the Markt. I need some coffee after all this madness. I walk in, and the smell of fresh pastries hits me like a brick wall. I order a koffie verkeerd, and the barista, bless her heart, gives me a free slice of cake. I’m like, “Wow, this day’s turning around!” I sit down, and as I’m enjoying my cake, I overhear this old guy at the next table talking about the best fishing spots in Kollum. I’m all ears, man. He’s going on about the Woudweg and how the fish there are massive. I’m taking notes in my head, thinking, “I gotta check that out!” But then, just as I’m about to leave, my phone buzzes. It’s my buddy, Jan. He’s like, “Hey, you wanna join me at the harbor later?” I’m thinking, “Sure, why not?” So, I finish my coffee, and I’m out the door, ready for round two. I bike over to the harbor, and it’s packed. People everywhere, boats bobbing in the water. I spot Jan, and he’s got this huge grin on his face. He’s holding up a fish that’s bigger than my arm! I’m like, “Dude, where’d you catch that?” He just shrugs and says, “You gotta know the right spots.” I’m feeling a mix of jealousy and excitement. We spend the afternoon fishing, swapping stories, and laughing. I even catch a couple of decent fish myself. But then, outta nowhere, it starts pouring rain. I’m talking buckets! We scramble to pack up, and I’m soaked to the bone. I’m laughing, though, because this day has been a rollercoaster. As I bike home, I can’t help but think about all the craziness. From the seagull stealing my sandwich to the kid crashing into my fishing spot, it’s been wild. But that’s Kollum for ya. It’s quirky, it’s unpredictable, and it’s full of surprises. I wouldn’t trade it for anything. So, yeah, that was my day. Just another adventure in this little town. Can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings!
